I got a rock chip that instantly turned into an 8" crack in my windshield and needs to be replaced. The dealer quoted me 7062.63 to replace it in my F8 Tributo. Holy moly. I'm glad my insurance has a $0 deductible for glass repair!

Ouch- I also took a hard rock to the windshield on day 2 of ownership- fortunately, it did not crack— this happened about 2 hours after I was having a. Discussion about installing dynoshield to protect it— but they are coming with a better quality version of it so I planned to wait…. I also thought it was 16k to replace that windshield so 7 is better lol… I’m in Florida and windshields are covered by insurance for free with no premium increase (so we are told)

The labor, which is almost always outsourced by the dealer, is usually negotiable to some extent, but that cost is in line with the windshield replacement cost of a current "regular" supercar, be it Ferrari, McLaren, or Lamborghini. It's all relative though: it can be ~$15K to replace an FXX-K windshield, or over $30K to replace a Pagani windshield, and basically "whatever" if we run into a scenario where no windshield exists and one has to be fabricated.

BTW, I was complaining about this to my physical therapist today and he said it cost 5k to replace the windshield for his Subaru because there is tech embedded into the windshield. I'm guessing part of the F8 windshield replacement cost is due to tech in the windshield as well. Made me think 7k was downright CHEAP! HAHA

Was it covered by your insurance with zero deductible and no increase to premium?

yup - glass damage is often covered 100% - no increase to premium - my policy has just that. Used it 4 times.

I’ve always heard in Florida, that’s the way it is …. but have never had to use it so was just checking… I have one bad chip in my windshield (that happened after I bought it) and some tiny ones that were already there so was curious— I would HATE to have to do it though as I can’t imagine a world where some techs could install a new one to perfection without a bunch of glue/sealant squished all over the edges and ****— precision machines put these in at the factory - I’m sure it would be too bad for my cosmetic OCD

Tech’s did a great job on my FF windshield, Just amazed me that the dealership and the windshield tech’s wouldn’t take responsibility
for the antenna not working since they worked on the windshield .

Make sure you don’t have claims on your insurance for the glass replacement or you might get to the point where you are uninsurable. Ask me how I know.

Depends on the state. Florida is no fault and the number of claims or amount paid for windshield has no affect on rates or being non-renewed.

It does when you try to change insurance companies by the way… it shows on history as like minor claim under $500 or some crap like that… same if you use roadside assistance through Insurance— it doesn’t even show exactly what it is to other companies but windshields, roadside, towing, rentals etc all fall in this area and it’s just a count or number of incidents that they see— super weird. My buddy (fellow finance mgr at dealership) found this out for his daughters car when he was shopping other companies for her, she had 9 of these ‘incidents’— her rates didn’t go up with current insurance ever but they were quoting super high rates with new companies due to this… he flipped out lol….

Correct. All bets are off if you change carriers. If you are with the same company they can not raise your rates or non-renew you for windshield claims, no matter how many you have.

Does anyone make aftermarket glass for these cars or is it OEM only? I would figure insurance would only pay for aftermarket (cheaper) glass.
