Just received my 458 and have only driven it 150 miles. Was out yesterday on a very sunny morning and I can see numerous "sparkles" throughout the entire windshield depending on the direction of the sun hitting it. Not uniform throughout; in some areas there are more than in other areas. If there is no sun, windshield looks crystal clear. Another way to describe them: like tiny "glitter specks" all over. They almost seem like they are within the glass. Any one notice anything like this in their 458? Any idea what they could be due to? Al

Sounds the windshield finish is slightly uneven.

Is the external surface of the windshield smooth?

Protrusions - tree sap or other debris?

Divets - wind damage from sand or dirt?

To remove impurities (sap) from the windshield, I have used clay and lubricant.

If divets are present, I would talk to the dealer.

I've never seen that in my windshield. I'd ask the dealer.

    The winshield appears very smooth.
In my garage, it looks perfect.
It is something that is only visible in the direct sun.
I think I will call the dealer and at least get it on record.
Any other comments from anyone, please post. Thanks.

Actually, based on your thread, I took a look today and noticed there are some really fine spider scratches on my windshield and when driving at night oncoming traffic
/lights highlight the scratches by dispersing light. Gonna give the service manager a call tomorrow to find out what the F is going on.

    Will keep you posted

You might want to try a small spot that you know has the sparkles using fine steel wool with Windex and see if the sparkles come out. I use this to clean the windshields on all my cars. Bugs come off easily and small scratches are nil. Fine steel wool does not hurt my windshields.

Be careful with steel wool...some windshields scratch easily. I screwed up the windshield on my 2010 QP with a razor blade scraping off a sticker and had to replace it .

Did you drive behind truck? that is the windshield has been sand blasted. If it bothers you than you need a new windshield. I just replaced my 89 Porsche windshield for the same reason after 22 years. If not do not use steel wool it will scratch the windshield. Use alcohol to dissolve the tree sap or goo gone

No, not really. Since I have only been driving for a short time period to get a better feel for the car, I have been extremely careful where and who I drive behind. Always avoid those damn trucks. Hope it might be some sap but not sure where it would have come from. When I arrive home, car goes right in the garage. What type (and %) of alcohol should be used to test a small area? Thanks.

Spoke w my service manager today and he said its definitely not normal. Will be taking it in to get it check this week and will keep you all posted.

For what it's worth I do have the heat insulating windshield, but still don't think it should easily scratch. Upon closer inspection it does indeed look like very fine scratches on the outer surface of the windshield.

Smart to get this on the record before they can blame you for the problem.

Perhaps it can be buffed out or maybe get a new windshield. Good luck.

    Please keep us posted.

I'm curious, what did the dealer say about this issue? Causes, corrections?

Alright. So had the car in the shop and had a lengthy discussion with the service manager. He reckoned that my windshield might have been scratched (wiped with a dirty cloth or similar) during transport or PDI. Too hard to determine where, but apologized adamantly for not catching it before the car was delivered. So, gave me a cople choice, and at the same time gave some advice and suggestions.

    1) have the windshield polished to remove the spider scratches (a couple of spots of around 4-5 square inches), but to ensure its fully even, they would polish the entire windscreen. This is the option he would suggest as the spider scratches are very shallow and can be easily removed.

    2) have the entire windshield replaced from Ferrari. He had no issues claiming the factory on this option, but the service manager advised against this as he said the windshield is an integral part of the structure and installed quite earithaca the production of the car, and if replace may compromise the integrity of the factory fitted structure.

Seems a reasonable suggestion so am planning to drop off the car for a day to get the windshield polished. Hopefully that will rid the problem.

What? I can't imagine replacing a windshield would compromise the integrity of anything. I'm sure they are replaced for damage and accidents. Having said that, I'd opt for the polishing first as well just because it sounds quicker and easier but I'm not sure I understand the replacement issue.

i have used a da buffer w meguiars 205 to improve clarity in windshields...

has anyone used more aggressive compounds like meguiars 105?

wondering if that is too abrasive
