Will you soon want to buy a Toyota (such as the GT86)?

  1. Wow! That actually looks like a neat little car - I'm impressed.

  2. It looks good, but I have concerns about whether it will actually be a good drive or not.

  3. I'm not interested in that particular Toyota.

  4. I'm not going to consider any Toyota.

FWIW, my thoughts on why the limited #s...

    • Capacity...the same plant also supplies essentially the same vehicle to Toyota/Scion.
    • Market...they want to test the demand before committing themselves to a bigger volume that might decrease margins.
    • Politics...might be some agreement with Toyota so that Toyota is the volume player in the segment.
    • WRX...gauge whether or not it materially cannibalizes WRX/STi sales (BRZ might actually help sales by bringing performance minded folks into the showroom but they decide they want/need 4 doors, ie a WRX/STi).

So I heard the price from a credible little birdie.

    BRZ Premium: $25,299+$750 destination
    BRZ Limited: $27,295+$750 destination

    Indeed!

The new GS is being hailed now as the best driving car in class. The LF-C is on the way too :)

Nice to see Lexus get props here :)

I like it, but I'm not sure I'll fit in it. I don't seem to fit in Jaoanese cars very well. I either hit my head on the roof or can't see out. I ended up selling my old SC400 because of this.

I had an SC300 and did not have any issues getting into it like I do with my Miata with the top up, I am 5'11 but I know what you mean. Back in '06 I organized a dyno day at a friends shop and an IS showed up, man what a narrow front seating area it had. The new IS's I think have added extra room but it still looks rather tight.

Getting in and out was mildly amusing. I had to practically do the limbo to get in and getting out was almost a ballet dance, lol. I had to turn around, grab the b pillar, bend down a little, put my feet on the ground and then stand up. I'm glad that I didn't have back problems when I had that car. I had similar issues getting in a friend's lowered Mustang, but getting out was much easier. I have no issues getting in and out of my Crown Vic, thankfully.

I also have a story involving a Mazda Miata. I was at a car dealer with one of my dad's friends, and I decided to check out a Miata they had for sale. It was the same generation as the ones they sell now, so this wasn't that long ago. So I went and sat in it. The top was down, so getting in and out wasn't too bad, but there was just one problem... The top of the windshield was level with the tip of my NOSE! I kid you not.

They made a big deal about using the Cayman as a benchmark for the car.

What are the odds? I see these two cars parked on opposite sides of the street in Orlando.

I had to do a quick side-by-side... from this angle they do look about the same size. But from ever other angle you'd never tie it back to a Cayman look-a-like when you saw a BRZ on the street. Good looking car, and it did look a lot more like a Miata with a hard top.

Other than this new BRZ , Toyotas are some of the ugliest cars on the road today. Just hideous things...

Past ~7 years or so. Used to like some of Toyotas designs in the 80s/90s, particularly the '84-'98 MR2, the '70-'92 Celicas, All the Supras, '03-'08 Matrix, and a few others.

But they are all pretty hideous now. Hondas were also pretty awful for most of this decade but are finally starting to look decent again. The new Civic is cool looking, the CR-Z is cool looking.

So the Scion is price-fixed, but will the Subaru be as well?

I presume they'll all sell for sticker initially, but I wonder how far they'll come down later on.

The "price-fixed" Scion simply means that they don't negotiate the price that is on the sticker, not that they won't mark up the price. The majority of people that have pre-ordered the Subaru have gotten guarantees at MSRP, but there are dealers out there that are charging $2-3k above MSRP, but most people are steering clear of them.

BTW, I ended up buying a 2007 LS460. Great car. Different from the Cayman, but still a great car.

Oh yeah well that's typical of anything new. . .

Just wondering, in the long run (8-12mos) how much these cars will be discounted. A loaded Ford Focus is something like 28k, but typically you get anywhere from 4-5k off of that price. I wonder if these will be similar.
