Will NJ issue temp tags with only a bill of sale?

Usally a Dealer can issue a Temp plate while they are doing the paper work to register + title the car , the Temp , plates have the dealer # written on the plate along with the owners + dealers info , but you can do a search on craigslist , there was a few guys ( dealers ) selling temporary plates, But i am not sure how legal it is , but they work in case you get pulled over , of course you must have your insurance up to date .

 

You can not get a temp plate unless you buy the car from a dealer (out of state, or in state). Do not buy a temp from Craigslist. That is totally illegal and if you are caught your car will be impounded for a very long time and both you and the individual that sold it will be in big trouble. That is why I never buy a car unless the title is in hand. At this point you have a piece of metal that someone else owns, a third party holds the title and the seller has all your money. Not a good situation.
