can somebody recommend some good hotels and restaurants please? am staying for a long weekend with some friends coming in from the usa. we spend 3 days and then they are on their own, so ideas for excursions or side trips would be appreciated as well. i was thinking of just going to the 4 seasons, but that seems ordinary. what about this olissippo palace? or the pestana palace? and we love authentic non-touristy restaurants. anyway, please let me know. thanks
Hey M8 im David Roma, when u guys flying in? I love women, fast cars and good food and wine... If you want to go to the really good restaurants i cant point out some for you guys would even go with you guys. and show you where you can actually enjoy the greatest food in the world. Im always traveling for buisness, and love it when a local wants to show me whats it all about in the place im visiting! So will be glad to do that for you! time permiting of course! As for the Hotel, look for one in the EXPO Area Lisbon, Parque das Nações, you will be close to everything including disco bars and night life, you can walk arround no problems. Cheers!
Lapa palace (pestana palace) is an excellent hotel. i think you and your friends won't be disappointed. about the restaurants, do you have some specific food in mind? portuguese food?
There are some good suggestions here already Ross. But may I add my neighbourhood of Cascais to the mix. Known as the Costa Do Sol of Portugal you will find some nice hotels, boutique hotels, great sights, restaurants and of course Europes biggest casino Estoril. You may not be into gambling but there are some fine places to stay and eat just steps away from the casino and even inside. But I must admit there are quit a few of the tourist trap retaurants so ask around. For big 5 star quality you have of course Hotel Palacio, Miragem Cascais and then for boutique style hotels you have Albatroz and Farol Design Hotel. Even if you stay in Lisboa you MUST go by Portugals mini French Riviera which is a 30 minute drive across the coast
thanks guys. keep it coming ! restaurants; definitely portuguese food. traditional, modern versions, low and high end.
ok guys, its coming up, i need some restaurant advice. my friends have already booked a place called 'manifesto'. dont know if its any good or not, altho it does not look traditional to me. would appreciate some good old fashioned portuguese restaurant recommendations. please respond. thanks
You have so many good restaurants you can go to while satying here in Lisbon, ross,if you are looking for traditional portuguese food I suggest you visit "A Colina" : http://maps.google.pt/maps/place?oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozillat-PTfficial&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=restaurante+a+colina&fb=1&gl=pt&hq=restaurante+a+colina&hnear=Lisboa&cid=17479849708836837149 http://timeout.sapo.pt/news.asp?id_news=2066 You can also enjoy some very good fish in Cascais either at the "Porto Santa Maria" restaurant,or the "Panorama" or even the "Fortaleza do Guincho" : http://www.guinchotel.pt/hotel_em_cascais_guincho/restaurante.aspx http://www.portosantamaria.com/ http://www.lifecooler.com/Portugal/restaurantes/RestaurantePanorama@4 If you prefer something easier to go to (to find you can go to the "Mercado do Peixe" : http://www.mercadodopeixe.web.pt/ In Downtown Lisbon you have a LOT of good restaurants, the "Ad Lib","LA Caffé","Largo","Opaq","Caffé Royale",Bistrô 100 Maneiras,Olivier(these are all very modern, and exceptionally good) : http://www.opaq.pt/ http://www.largo.pt/ http://www.restauranteadlib.pt/ http://www.la-caffe.com/ http://www.restaurante100maneiras.com/ http://www.restaurante-olivier.com/ If you need more suggestions,or a good restaurant in a specific area, just ask,i´ve been to all of the above (and many more) and I personally recommend them
Oh,and right besides "Manifesto" (I pass by it every day) is a very good Sushi restaurant called "Estado Liquido" : http://www.estadoliquido.com/ And there´s a good Italian just down that street..i´ve eaten there but I can´t remember the name now,but you´ll recognize it if you walk by it,it has a very modern a clean look decoration inside.
Hmmm... Mouthwatering options! Just by reading makes me wanna book a plane right away back to Lisbon! There was one Lisbon hotel that caught my attention and that was Inspira Santa Marta. Excellent staff, cosy rooms and pleasant bar and spa. On the other hand, I think that all the restaurants our friend listed are worth checking, I've been to most of them and also recommend it.
