If Mercedes is on the grid,... he'll be in it.

The guy is a diversity drama multi WDC queen on and off the track.

This is more of his drama hype by not signing with Mercedes yet........thanks to the media.

Lewis stays for 2021.and gets #8.

Very low risk for him. It’s not like a sport where he could physically be behind all of a sudden like say tour de. France. With no reg changes and a dominant car #8 is in the bag. There is more at stake after 2021

The 2021 car is guaranteed to win the title. Why would he possibly leave?

Mercedes wants Hamilton to commit for 3 more years, I read, and sign a contract before a "drivers' salary cap" is introduced by the FIA.
There could be a $30 million per year pay limit for each team decided beyond 2021.
The stumbling block isn't about money, but Hamilton not wanting to commit for so long.

It's about money William beyond 2021.

Lewis wants his $50 million per year plus bonus.....so if it means he wants his 1 year contract then he will get.

Beyond 2021 plus the salary cap, he won't want it. Good chance he'll quit then. I mean, why guaranteed a win with Mercedes and only get paid $30 million....that sucks....in Lewis's world.

You may know more than me on this.
I read that the proposed salary cap would be $30 million per year for 2 drivers, so something like $15M each, or 20 + 10, or 25 + 5, etc ...
Contracts signed before that new rule comes into force have to be honoured, and that's why Mercedes is eager to offer Hamilton a 3 years contract now.
I think Hamilton wants the assurance that Toto Wolff stays in charge, and don't want to commit in case the Austrian leaves.

Regarding the salary cap, I am pretty sure financial gurus are already looking at loopholes to circumvent that limit.
Team salaries could be lowered to meet the limit, but personal sponsorship increased, etc ...

I agree. I can hardly wait for him to just get 8 and go away. He is such a drama queen. Today Bottas lead and he complains about his RF tire. He does gather it up and implements a great strategy to beat Bottas. Hammy is playing chess and Bottas is playing checkers. I respect the achievement but can't stand the man.

That's been Lewis and Merceds "modus operandi" for several years-->fake the tire drama and run the fastest laps....not to mention the pit crew doing fake pit stops. It throws others off whom are listening or watching.

It's all a psych job. Hey, give credit where credit is due.

No need to look into loopholes. Easiest thing ever to circumvent. So not an issue.

The games started the moment Bottas beat him to pole ''oh it will not be an easy race..very boring and hard to overtake''. He covers himself immediately. If he's stuck behind bottas and doesn't overtake, he's got his excuse already laid out. If he overtakes him, he looks a hero. He's been doing this stuff since he started racing. And his fans eat it up....

I think the question of Toto leaving at the end of the season is the key to if Hamilton stays. If Toto can make a big enough offer to keep Hamilton there no matter what Toto does, then Toto can take credit if things go well (I left the team in great shape), and he can avoid blame if them don't (I guess they just couldn't pull it off without me). But the real fun would be to dump Bottas and bring in Max...and see if Hamilton sticks around or retires.

I noticed Lewis was rambling on about showing his future grand kids his trophy's etc ...he better get a move on at 35 already.I wouldn't be surprised if he announced getting married and retiring at the same time .

He will clean up next year then get on with the rest of his life in a different direction.

They haven't finalized the contract yet so this is his way to apply a little pressure on Merc.

He'll bag an 8th title to beat MS for good and then call it quits.

I think he gave up on being in a committed relationship while in F1 after all of the rancor with the *****cat Doll woman (Nicole?). Seems to have helped his career greatly

Realistically, I don't think decisions at this level are made "for fun".
There are $ millions at stake, the prestige of several companies, plus the livehood of more than 1000 employes.
Why would Mercedes change a winning team?

Really ? I think Hamilton had a lucky escape !!!

I don't consider marriage as a big success in life.

But winning 93 GPs and 97 poles, that's what I call an achievement !!!

Wrong question maybe. Because Susie Wolff wants a life?

Didn't she know in which industry her husband was working?

F1 requires big sacrifices, but can give huge rewards.

I believe Susie Wolff is herself involved in the organisation of Formula E.
