The Elise would not be a good car for taking the son to school. There is almost no interior room. He would be cramed in there with his back pack.

I think the 996 would be the best choice given the circumstances.

Ever been in an Elise? I'm 6' 2", and did not even have the seat slid all the way back. Although the backpack might be a bit of an issue, I think it would fit ok.

Porsche gets my vote but if I were buying for my bride..I'd be buying her a Jaguar XKR.

Women tend to love this vehicle as it exudes sensuality.

Yes, I use it as a daily driver & don't think it would be the best car for a kid to sit in with a backpack.

No offense, but is she really going to get that much enjoyment out any of these options at 1-2K miles per year..... going back and forth to school??

It's your $, but (IMO) unless she's actually going to use the car then what's the point?

Unless your wife is tall, she may have a problem seeing out the rear of a targa model NSX. The deck lid over the engine in the targa is raised to hold the roof when it is being stored. My wife had a hard time turning and seeing over this raised area.

I have driven all on your list.. I would have to say Lotus Elise. I personally own one and I have a blast driving it. It helps the Ferrari have extra days off duty!

Another vote for the 996 (based on your specs).

Keep in mind the Elise is very difficult to get in and out of and not comfortable.
