In very few circumstances is the closed version of a car worth more than the open version (1969 and 1970 Mustang fastback v. convertible is one rare example). So why is it the case the the GTB is more valuable than the GTS? It's not like the GTS has an ugly fabric softtop to put up and down. The two cars look virtually the same but the GTS gives you an open air option while the GTB does not. Enlighten me.

GTBs are just better cars. Drive one and see. In the case of carb 308s, all the US GTSs have cats but most of the Bs do not.

Definitely rarer on the market as well. You likely see 5 gts for sale to every gtb...based on my casual observation the past 2 years.

the GTB resale has traditionally sucked, at least in the US, nobody wanted one which is indicated by the Ferrari production numbers. NOW, however, because nobody wanted one back then, there weren't many made so they are now quite rare compared to GTS's. So the rarity has made them more collectable.

If you insisted on the best possible performing 308/328, there is no doubt that the GTB should have more precise handling. On the practical side, it probably makes no difference since there are SUVs that will out-handle a 3x8 GTS/B nowadays.

I thing the GTB is a prettier car than a GTS with the top on. With the top off, I don't think there's a prettier car at all from the modern era than a red/tan 328 GTS which is why I bought one. But obviously, different opinions is what sells different cars… :)

    GTB's are:

    1. More rare
    2. Stiffer cars
    3. Slighly more roomy in side
    4 Bit lighter
    5. pretty car.

vrtually no difference in performance other than much more rigid structure with an intact roof.

"Why is a 308 GTB Worth More Than a GTS?"

What factual evidence do you have to support this claim? While I agree with all that is stated above, I suspect that when it comes to putting the money down, most buyers will go for the GTS over a GTB, all else being equal.

We see this with Jaguar XKE roadsters verses the coupes. Most XKE enthusiasts love the coupes, but end up buy the roadsters.

Stated a bit differently, most *308* buyers will go for a GTS but might consider a GTB if the price is good. But a *GTB* buyer wouldn't consider a GTS, and will pay a premium for an excellent car because there are so few of them. Because of that, selling a good GTB will take longer to find the right buyer, but it will likely find a premium price.

I fall into the latter camp. I could have bought a good GTS within a week of searching, but never considered it - not an option for me. It took me more than two years to find the GTB I wanted.

    This.

I think a lot of buyers either want the earliest, "purest" version (pre-cat for US cars) or the latest, fastest (328), so values are stronger at those ends of the market. I'm indifferent to the GTB/GTS debate, but the first couple of years of 308 production are to me (and probably many others) the ones to have.

Agree. When you actually take the thing out on the road, you're not racing, not driving in bad weather and want the immediacy you get in an open car.

Look at the used car market for F430s -- it must be 80-90 percent Spiders, because people wanted and ordered open cars. I think a red/tan '89 328 GTS is still the cat's meow as far as investment grade cars go.

    More beautiful?

Isn't that in the eye of the beholder and not a fact?

More people wanted the GTS when new and this holds true today, more people still want the GTS. So the rarity of the GTB is cancelled out by the lower demand.

Its interesting how regional tastes differ. In the UK cars with tan interior are rare but not especially desired. Everyone wants red/crema.

My personal preference is the B over the S because it is less busy looking, cleaner lines, no side louvers over the 1/4 windows. The break in the roof-line with the contrasting roof panel of the S effects the sleek look IMO. The step-over of the rocker reinforcement in the S and the cowl shake over uneven surfaces does point to a compromise in design to offer the open roof.

Well I'm going to be very honest with you all now. I gave a carb GTB and think that it is the most beautiful thin ever created by man. BUT if it were possible to shut my eyes tight and count to 10, open them and find a GTS in its place I might just do it !

I love the interior colors favored in the UK. Especially the red carpets. The only ones I've seen over here are European cars that were brought over, but I that would be a selling point for me, FWIW.

    I was considering a 308 GTB...now leaning toward a 430 scud : O

    ...we will see.

GTS is a compromise in performance for other experiences that cannot be obtained the the GTB IMHO. Pick one and never look back...or get both if you can! ; )
