    Because it's AWESOMMMMMMMMMEEEE!!!

Seriously though, my wife and I laughed a little about this, until I realized all the muscle cars from the 60's and 70's prancing across the stage on the Mecum Auction had the same exact thing.

    Go figure.

    Its a combination of reasons:

    - Young males are usually attracted to the broad and outrageous whether its women, action movies or cars. They havent yet discovered 'moderation'. Bigger is always better.

    - As has been said , 'race cars'. Most young males want to drive a real race car and many of them have outrageous features. By putting something similar on your car you can tap into the psychological enjoyment of being a real race car driver.

    - Modern entertainment influences. Outrageous designs from video games, movies and comics are very influential.

    - Performance is becoming less and less a focus for young people. Its about looks and personalization.

Some cars suit a wing and yes down force. I'm not a fan of most of the wings UT some do look good. Ever seen a proper wing on an rsx for example?

Talk about crazy wings look at that countach what overkill ;)

The Nose Wing was added by Lamborghini North America to get passed bumper height requirements and Rear Wing was just to look cool.

IMO, the spoilers were COMPLETELY useless and just added weight and drag. It did nothing for down force & road grip like you would think like today's well thought out and computer aided wind tunnel designs. Does look very cool though.

This thing was a ROCKET. 2.7L Inline 6 with upgraded twin turbos. The wing is pushing it but the roll cage, which almost knocked me out, helps justify it.

Take wing off, car value goes up by $5k. Why do people put cheesy wings on a Ferrari???
I can understand on a Ricer, the wing look fits it well!
