I couldn't find a thread) https://www.ebay.com/itm/1990-Ferrari-348-TS-/283164512872?hash=item41edeb9268%3Ag%3An6AAAOSwerRbnzWz&vxp=mtr&nma=true&si=yEflh2NsYoaQggsbScKJ1vNfobg%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Why was this car was listed for this price? Do you think it has to do with the bank held title, timing of the major service, 'minor imperfections', or something else? I can't figure it out, it seems way too low, especially with the extra wheels that are probably worth $1,000-2,000.
The bigger question is why do I only see these cars AFTER they have been sold? I would have jumped on this for $25,000.
- 60k mi - Major needed. Last one 20k mi ago (other deferred upkeep?) - Quick sale needed - Title not in hand Pretty easy equation
No it was a real deal, I was second in line on it and unfortunately missed out by seeing it an hour too late. It was plenty rough but worth $25k in parts all day long so it was a no brainer.
If the last major was done at 43k miles as the ad states, per the vehicle history report attached to the listing, that would've been sometime between 2004 and 2009 (probably '05/'06 given the accrual of mileage in that timeframe). It also doesn't look like this guy was driving it much, as the current mileage listed in the ad is 1k higher than what the vehicle history report shows as the mileage in 2013 (57,873 vs 58,560). Car could have some issues.
If that car did actually sell for $25K, it sold for that amount because no one else bid $25,000.01. Great deals can be had on eBay or at auctions, but caveat emptor.
It was a 'Buy It Now' auction, which added to my curiosity. Why wouldn't he at least list at at $25,000 and take bids, even if only for 24 hours. I just can't understand the mindset of the seller, even if the fair value of the car is only $25,000, he left himself no shot of making more... The only thing I can think of is that he's in some sort of strange debt scenario where the party he owes has decided that this car must be sold to eliminate 25k from his debt. Then it would make sense that he only listed it at 25K because he wouldn't be able to keep any of the profits anyway.
That particular car does have at least one pretty sweet brand new part installed on the drivers side. Not that I'm privy to such matters....
Sometimes sellers just want to be rid of a car. Setting the sales price very low compared to the general market helps facilitate a quick sale and elimination of a lot of hassles and nitpicking by buyers. Could be the seller needed money, space, or both. Most likely the seller just wanted to avoid the typical buyer with the typical pricing. BT
I think you need giant chromium balls to buy something like this from an unknown party online with a questionable price, without verifying it exists or looking at it. Either that or the money doesn't really matter to you. Maybe I'm just a giant *****.
As mentioned, worth 25k in parts, I would have bought it if I had seen it. I've bought other cars like this listed at a very low price. When everyone else is asking for leakdown numbers and you say "I'll buy it today no questions asked" you'll be the one who owns it. To many, quick and painless is more important than getting more money out of the car.
I bought my 328 sight unseen on ebay because I knew that the parts would be worth more than what I paid if it turned out to be junk. Plenty of ways to verify and protect yourself AFTER you have secured the winning bid and before you send your money. In the end it turned out to be a great deal and much better than I anticipated though there was a lot of work to do on my end restoring the car.
Lots of deals to be had on auction sites, I bought a practally new Ducati 1199s (1500miles and not even 6 months old) several years ago from eBay sight unseen for almost $10k under retail. Never had an issue.
That’s kind of what I did to myself on this car or I would own it right now. I have these sorts of things on saved searches with eBay so I got a notification the minute it was listed. I requested some pictures of specific things, which in providing those proved the guy actually had the car in his possession at least. But in that time someone else pulled the trigger and put me waiting in second place hoping the deal fell through.
I don’t know, I bought my 91 348TB sight unseen for just under $30k and ended up driving it nearly 2000 miles home from Texas to Montana. Of course it had/ has some issues but it turned out to be an average condition car. The only thing I’ve HAD to do was the clutch. I knew it was weak when I bought it but still got around 4000k miles out of it before it went. I got a great deal on a refreshed clutch setup from Bruce/Plugzit and also spent $700 on Hill Engineering TO Bearing and slave cylinder shaft while I was in there. She’s still running strong.
