So the owner's manual says there are 5 gallons of coolant.
I can only drain 2.5 gallons from the radiator and block.
    Where is the rest?

Steve, with careful draining without losing a drop I collected 3 gallon plus 1/2 quart from heather. Pete mentioned in his work that he used shop vacuum to suction coolant from top after removing the coolant manifold. Base on that fact I removed the coolant manifold to have access to the bottom of blocks but unfortunately it was not feasible. Later on he documented reaching left side water drain plug obtained very little may be hundred ml or so which did not worth the effort of doing it. so leave us with no answer except some one with flexible bronchoscope enter and check the bottom of water jacket if there is any coolant sitting there ( bellow the drain plug level).

Well, the best I could remove after warming up the car and filling the reservoir was 2.6 gallons. I have flushed with distilled water of 2.5 gallons 6 times. The flushed water is not clear, but of a slight yellowish color.
So there must be 2.4 gallons unreachable by radiator or block drain.
I did this on race ramps.

I will try to back the car down to see if I can get any more from block drain.

I filled up reservoir after starting engine and was able to get 2.6 gallons. The car is on race ramps and so I will move it backwards to lower the front and see if I can get more from block.

Try to check the left side drain plug to see if it is easily accessible, I will do it tonight or tomorrow and will let you know.

It isn't worth the trouble. When you change oil you don't get 100% either. Changing oil or coolant in a timely fashion for good maintenance assumes some level of dilution of old with new. Many of the newer Ferraris do not even have drain plugs. You would need to turn the car upside down to drain it.

Wouldn't a good practice to flush 2 3 times (drain and refill) with distilled water and then add the right amount of pure antifreeze to get right dilution considering what water is left inside .. then you would pretty much clean everything?

If regularly maintained it never got dirty. Coolant is good for a few hundred thousand miles. Some of the additives wear out and need replenishing. A 100 % change is totally unnecessary for that purpose. No engine manufacturer requires it.

I drained the left side when I changed coolant last time. There is very little after draining the right side. And it is hard to get to.

I have done 6 flushes with distilled water to remove 99% of old coolant and now will add rotella in two steps to get to 50%.

Did you have the wrong anti-freeze in it since you are changing it?

Hey dumb ass. Nothing I said there is a contradiction.

No drain plug? Guess that’s one less thing to leak, huh?
