Nice boat -- is the new blue hull painted or wrapped? Considering doing that on my boat as well as I am a fan of colored hulls. What was price per ft to change color? Thanks and enjoy the cruise!

I've never seen a large boat wrapped. Painting the waterline to rubrail on a '92 would be $50-75K. pretty easy to do just a lot of it. Now if you want to paint the "house" too, I would guess it's around $200K. A friend repainted a viking 61' which is about 1/2 the size of the 92' and he paid $110K.
Damn that's pricey! Got a 60 Marquis that was contemplating changing color but hard to recoup any of that $ on resale
I did this one a couple years back hull was 10k just a big area not much tape and retape so cost a lot less then the top sides ! 2002 55 Viking Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sort of back to the original. The Graddy Whites, Boston Whalers, etc. Just for the engines they at nearly $100k at dealer cost. Add in other electronics, etc. You are over $100k before you've even laid the hull. Or even worse get into offshore powerboats, basic entry level Mercury Racing engines and drives (700's and NXT drives) is around $170k dealer cost. Adds up quick.
The last boat I owned cost me about $1,800 each time it was taken out. The sad part is, that was only a $50k wake board boat (which are now over $90k). Never had the desire to own an ocean going vessel, I learned from my older brother - when you aren't putting money into using it, your putting money in to maintaining or upgrading it. I went on one trip with him, spent half the time working on some part of the boat. I told him I would pick up the tab for the gas - holly **** I had no idea how expensive twin screws cost to run (and that was 15 years ago). I think Jet aircraft cost less per mile for fuel. Renting with crew looks much more attractive to me.
Please understand that I've never owned a boat. I really don't know too much about them. Regardless, I just saw how much traction this thread has picked up.
Easy! He paid $50K for it new. Sold it for $32K two years later. He used it 10 times, each time he used the boat it cost him $1800.
Pretty much. Kids wanted but rarely used it. Add $250 a month for a lake front lift /slip, insurance, fuel, maintenance , some add ons, sales tax and depreciation and your there.
A lot of overhead in boat building. Takes a few people and a big space to build them. Then add in how many boats per year does someone like Boston Whaler make. Not like there is a line out the door for new $300k boats. To cover the overhead and make a profit the less they sell the more they need to charge.
In order to understand why they cost so much.. you need to understand the abuse and beating they are designed and built for . all those electronics need to still work after being beat in heavy seas and all the fittings and engines etc needs to be able to operate in salt water for years and years.. also many boats have sliding glass door on it notice how smooth they operate even after years of use now go operate the sliding door on the average house .... and everything has to be boat safe so it does not cause electrical soaks in the engine compartment and it goes on and on... they are very expensive to keep up also..
When I was a kid, my dad bought a 35 foot searay. Twin screws, sport cruiser etc. we had it for 2 or three years. He finally sold it for a loss (obviously) to some radio jokey. After factoring the cost of the boat, driving up to it on the weekends (the idea was to use it like a cottage) food, fuel, slip fees etc, that thing cost him 1 thousand dollars a day while we used it. He has never forgiven himself for wasting all that money. However I and the rest of my family have great memories of that boat.
Ed I just love your boat the enclosed flybridge is just so nice ... best of luck what size and year is it.
That is a 2016 92 Viking . I handed it over to the owner Friday afternoon ! She is a 80 year old lady that knows exactly what she wants !
The one getting the tower is a 80 Viking 2016 ! That one start and very wild new shark tagging campaign this March all thought The Caribbean. This is going to be a great 6 months !
I stayed in Palm Harbor Marina ( W Palm Beach FLA) last night. This boat was on the dock. 80'+ custom. The transom and mezzanine area is nothing short of art. Just gobs of perfect brightwork (varnished wood) kept perfect while it sits in the sun and salt all day. The Palm Beach boat show is a few weeks away and many of the boats were having their brightwork reconditioned prior to the show. The task that never ends. Beautiful though.
