The chassis number is #040. The owner is a man named Gary Williams who I believe works/ed for Goldman-Sachs in New York and he has an affinity for Porsches. The F1 is often kept at Manthey Racing in Germany just outside the famous Nurburgring. He's had them make some changes to certain suspension components and fitted larger wheels to the car to reduce tire flex. He is the only F1 owner I am aware of who's actually attempting to improve on McLaren's efforts in this way. He's also one of the few F1 owners who actually seems to get the car out on track on a regular basis.

The car itself is one of just a handful of F1s that feature the optional high mirrors, which use the mirror housing from a BMW Z1 roadster. The car was originally silver, but Mr Williams had it refitted and resprayed by McLaren when he purchased it to that striking blue color. He claims it doesn't photograph well, so if you are put off by it, it could just be that.

He's told some great stories about the car over on PistonHeads.com that some of you might be familiar with. They are worth searching out if you are interested and his username there is "flemke".

Here's more recent shots of the car below seen fitted with the larger wheels I mentioned. These were taken in the Manthey Racing showroom by Erik on 6SpeedOnline.com.

Oh, I didn't realize those were the same car. I think it looks better with the gold rims. Thanks for the pics and info!

Those wheels (BBS?) really make it stand out.

Yes - the wheels were custom made by BBS. Assuming that the owner is happy with the change in sidewall height on the tires, he has plans to have wheels of another design made for the car. These are just a test set if you will.

Some people have bawked at the gold color. I happen to like it, but I also photoshopped one image so they would be silver and that seemed to garner more praise.

Here's that shot, and a shot of the car being aligned at Manthey Racing.

Definitely the same car. I can upload the video somewhere else if there is interest in it, but keep in mind he's not pushing it at 10/10ths, bouncing off the kerbing with tires squealing out of every turn.

    I can't say I would be either though. :D

I don't normally like odd colors but that thing is absolutely stunning with the BBS wheels.

The only thing I don't like about it are the side mirrors - I just can't stand them being where they are, otherwise it's a very distinctive F1. Those low-profile tires should make a noticable difference on the handling.

Unfortunately that's the highest res I have on those shots. I don't even recall where I found them, but I would have grabbed the largest size available when I did.

I'm really not much of a Porsche nut, I just thought those shots were great - maybe someone else will come to the rescue.

Yep, that's Flemke's car. And yes, his posts on PH are always very interesting, he's very candid about his cars. Seems like a top bloke.
