I am in negotiation to buy a car from them & I'd like to know their reputation. Thanks
William - Simply put, they are outstanding. Email or PM me offline, and we can talk directly. -Daniel
Absolutely one of the finest dealerships and people ( They dont come any better or more knowledgable than Steve Barney ) that I have dealt with. You will have a great experience with them. Buddy
If this means anything: I like them so much that I've driven there 11 times total so far. It's a 6 hour drive from my house and I like to get there when they open at 9 so I tend to leave at 3 am. I drive home the same day. I know everyone there on a first-name basis, we'll talk trash, cars, whatever. I've been given a few rides: 328 GTS & Gallardo to name a few. I am allowed into the service bay area where they keep cars for sale that are not in the showroom. They THANK ME every single time I come, just for visiting them and sharing my passion of cars with them! I think that means something.
Every time I have been there I have been greeted with a smile and a sincere Hello. And as of right now, I am only able to go and lust after the cars and take pics. (One day soon that will change) Good luck with your purchase! And, I will volunteer my services to personally drive your new car down to you once the deal is finished.
Gee, anyone who's read your posts over the last few months should know what car it is...kinda obvious, isn't it??? Good luck on the purchase. I hope to see you track it someday!
My First Visit this week. Three things stood out: 1-VERY, VERY FRIENDLY, ALL STAFF MEMBERS 2-THE SHOP LIFT IS IN THE SHOWROOM, AND AN ENGINE OUT 512 WAS TAKING PLACE, A BEAUTIFUL PRESENTATION 3-THERE IS A YELLOW ENZO THAT HAD BEEN DRIVEN IN THE RAIN! I ADMIRE THAT WHOLEHARTEDLY. IT EVEN NEEDED DETAILING!! MY KIND OF DRIVER.
the principal is steve barney...a very well known and admired ferrari guy! he has owned some very important ferraris personally and does know a good car when he sees one. they are pricey however!!!
Maybe. But tell him exactly what you want... Give him 30 to 60 days... And he WILL find it... exactly it... for you!!!! And then Tom Jones can fix it!!!!! I deal with almost no one else.
The folks at Sportauto are super - straight forward and honest. No worries about anything that passes Steve Barney's inspection. Prices are fair to start with so there is only a bit of negotiation to do.
Steve and Tom are about the best in the biz--simply put--they are the ONLY Ferrari folks I trust implicitly with my car and technical issues
"Does Michael Salimbene still work there? Didn't see his pic on the current website." Michael left us a few years ago. He is in PA now and seems to be doing great last time I talked with him. Hope that helps, Steve www.sportauto.cc
Good God!!! Steve!!! I did not think you posted here!!!! Thanks again for running such a class act there!!!! (Not everyone does you know...)
I'll "pile on" the compliments as well. Steve Barney is not only supremely knowledgeable but in all respects honorable too. I had a specific experience with Steve and his dealership a few years back upon which I base my conclusion. First class all the way.
Hey Dr.....just to prevent any confusion ,Steve Barney isn't the one posting here...I am the "other Steve" as they call me at the store. We try to run as friendly and honest shop as a we can. Thank you guys for all the comments and if at any time you have any questions or concerns PLEASE let me or Steve Barney know. We welcome you guys to stop by anytime! Best Regards, Steve Jones www.sportauto.cc
I'm deep in the throes of my hunt for The Perfect 308/328, and Sport Auto has a couple of cars coming in that might be candidates. One of the Steves already wrote me about an '85 308. It's the most expensive 308 I've seen listed, so hopefully it's a really pristine car and mechanically excellent. I'm guessing it will be and that I'll love it. Based on what I've read here and elsewhere, Sport Auto seems like a safe place to buy -- that makes me feel better about the long distance shopping thing. BUT: everyone and his mom has also told me to get a PPI on anything I buy that has a prancing horse on it. Do any of you have recommendations for an independent F-car mechanic who is nearby? Or am I wasting time and money, because the car will already have been gone over down to the last bolt? My schedule -- work and a non-profit I volunteer for as prez -- might not let me get out to NC anytime soon. I don't want miss out on The Right Car, but as a Ferrari newbie don't want to start off on the wrong hoof with a bad one. Great post - and thanks in advance for any input. J
J, I would get a prepurchase inspection....but I would have Tom Jones do it. Tom is the kind of guy who will tell you the truth regardless of the stores position. Please check around but you aren't going to find a guy who knows his stuff any better. Now that being said if you wanted to have it inspected at FCI make sure and request Greg Dixon. Greg is there most senior guy and he knows the most over there. Ciao' Steve Jones www.sportauto.cc
