I have a friend that works at Discount Tire and can get me my tires for cheap (no I won't give you his name for the hookup...LOL).... Do I need to get tires done at the dealership, or would a reputable tire shop be able to install tires on my F430?
I have 2 private places that have done my tires. Both great. Ask them if they have the equipment necessary to work with low profile tires. I wouldn't go to the dealership.
Make sure whoever does the tires has a touchless mounting machine. Otherwise you risk them scratching your wheels.
As long as the tire place has one of these, it should be cool. That said, I recently went to my local Ferrari dealer, who basically matched TireRack prices and did the mounting, balancing and alignment. The work was top notch, and not really much more than what a tire shop would have charged. Or, have TireRack drop ship tires to your local dealer and have them do the installation. https://www.alltiresupply.com/products/artiglio-master-high-performance-tire-changer?variant=16348787717 Image Unavailable, Please Login
I once sent my car to the dealer to replace a blow out, they charged me an hour and a half labor to replace one tire. Plus a markup on the tire from tire rack price... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Pick a place that has experience mounting ultra low profile tires The local Firestone place spent 4 hrs trying to get a bead to seat on a front wheel on my 430 The tire went on the wheel in 10 minutes. Getting it to seat on the wheel was another matter. The tire was so stiff it wouldn't seal on the wheel. They took it to a hood custom wheel shop that got it to seal by putting brake cleaner on the bead while using multiple pry bars to position the bead properly then igniting the fluid popping the tire into place it was quite the show The Firestone place tried a bead blaster multiple times as well as other tricks
GMG racing in Orange County did my alignment. They have a full tire shop with all the necessary equipment. They work on mostly Porsche but saw Ferrari, Lambo and Mac while there. I used America's Tire in Lake Forest to take off tires from a spare set to Challenge wheels. They have a large window where you can watch all the work and everyone was super careful and meticulous with the work. I would have no problem taking my car there as well.
I just had FoSV mount/balance 4 tires and do an alignment on my 16M. They wanted too much $$ for the tires, so I had Tire Rack ship to them. They did a great job.
I'm trying to see what's the best way to do my front ones too. They are too old and need to be replaced. I know everyone has different opinion on brands but found Michelin pilots for about $200+ per piece. Thought it was a good price.
Just had a new set of Bridgestone RE-11's installed by a Discount Tire shop I have been using for years. They do a fine job and are super careful with all my cars. They don't stock the RE-11 but took two days to get and beat Tirerack's price by $25/tire. I provided them with a set of OEM valve stems (purchased from Ricambi) which they deducted from the installation price. For any San Diego area denizens, the shop is the one at 1001 Broadway in El Cajon. Cheers, Andy
Discount Tire has been doing all my cars for years. They take extra care and stand behind their work. I might choose a discount tire in Scottsdale as they probably have more experience with high line cars and their owners that one in Mesa or Chandler.
Discount Tire is called America's Tire in California, the crew in my town is pretty top notch and safe for themselves and my car. I usually just bring them wheels and mount them on the car myself. One young man in the shop took and interest in my car and had worked in shop in Napa, CA where there are a ton of Ferrari's. He want to make sure it was done right and he did. Three most important things, additude, aptitude, and equipment. Then things work out.
