Have you tried registering the car with Ferrari? The will tell you the original colour. Marcel Massini, who posts often in the Vintage section, might be able to help too.

Do you know the history in the Netherlands?

If not that maybe a good start. Could not read the license plate.
Maybe the importer can be traced.

The Registry Olando has a picture of your car in may 1999 taken at show or dealer looks like.
Location Hoevelaken. Maybe the high res image shows bit more.

Also Marcel is briliant when it gets to history and he made the picture.
So he likely knows a bit more.

I assume you also checked RDW entry?

True, I got that pic from the dutch site, and I know who sold it initially in Holland (Marnix Classics) but they do not respond to anything I have asked about the car. I bought the car 2 years ago with a blank title, so it has not been on the road with it's first dutch owner from Enschede. But that is it. I am so curious what the story is for this car before it was imported. Specially because of the non-original color, and pretty perfect restoration.

Sure I can ask Ferrari, but the money they charge is kind of crazy. And the certificate is just a too small piece in the puzzle.

I think the basic certificate is free, only the classiche (sp?) treatment is expensive.

Art, wasn't that service cancelled since 2009? I could only find the service from Classiche at a minimum price of 1200(!) euros excl tax.

    No way....

Don'y know. I think if you sign up with ferrari.com and list your serial number in your 'garage' they will provide some details.

Did you check with the dealers and service specialists, like Forza Service, ItalAuto, Kroymns, AME, etc. Can not believe a car in this condition got no maintenance in 10 yearx or more.

I assume you got no delivery documents with the car.

As to Ferrari. Mine is regostered eith Ferrari but they never provoded any data.
The RDW does keep record of import papers but no idea whether they release such info or drop it after certain period. Same for tax office. Someone paid BPM when it got Dutch title.

Would be interresting to know how much they release. Good luck.

Ha,ha, maybe your 400i is really a replica created out of an old 365 GTC/4 or a Daytona and that is why the factory says that it doesn't exist! :D :D :D

That is why my 400 remains a mystery. It has a sticker of "Marnix Classic" on the rear window. But they will not supply me any details. The other link is the Hoevelaken picture (at Big Boys Toys business??? Don't know..). I have no older paper work of the car, just got the info from the previous owner. The same one that ruined the engine in the first 2 days while parked on his own lot and has never registered it, as it was still on a blank title. I am the first owner that registered it in approx 12 years. And it has never been registered before in Holland after it was imported from an unknow country.

small update as things seem to speed up :)

I traced the original first owner here in Holland. He is a classic car specialist and has driven it himself for a short on a commercial registration while before putting it in his own car collection. He imported it at the end of the 1990s from Switserland with all paper work and history complete. After a few years he sold it to the other classic car specialist mentioned above. This guy sold it to the guy that I bought it from with serious engine damage. The engine was ruined in the first weeks and was taken apart to start a rebuild All 3 dutch owners did not register it to a person, it has only driven a few months on "dealerplates" in the last 12 years. The guy that I bought it from told me that he did not get any paperwork/history etc with the car. I do not know it he is telling the truth though, but I have to focus now on the 2nd owner. But he does not pick up his phone, nor will respond to previous emails. So all paperwork from the first owner in Switserland is laying around here in Holland somewhere. I really hope he guy will respond on my request to share of hand over all history of this car. Fingers crossed and hope he will respond soon....

Thats some positive new's.. i started to think your car possibly came from a over the border Mid-Night-Auto restoration shop in Poland ;-) haha

Whenever I needed original info on a car i just notify my parts manager at Ferrari and he tells me the details by email within the day, includes options and sold to dealer etc. Never had to pay for that..

    Regards, Robert.

PS,, love the black red carpet combo..

I would drive over to them and try personal contact even offer some. money if need be.
My experience is that only personal contact will motivate people to serch their documents.

Did you try RDW?. They must have a copy of the original registration (at least at time of registration) otherwise the car would not have been given Dutch papers. When i imported my 412 in the 90's they gave me a copy of the German paperwork but kept the original paperwork.

I have no idea whether they will release this to you. But it is worth the effort as this will certainly give you the previous Swiss owner.

I just got a mail from Ferrari that stated that my 400 was delivered to it's first owner in ARGENTO LE SANCY. The still as new interior is original.

As soon as the 400 is ready for the summer roads I will drive up to the 2nd dutch owner to ask for all paper work. That is all that remains. If I have that my 400 is happy again :)
