So, where would you recommend a novice scotch drinker start - closer to the middle of the flavor map? Or, max out on the light and delicate characteristics? I'm more of a beer and wine guy, but I can always stand another bad habit!…T

That's a fantastic chart, never saw anything like it!

I think you should just start experimenting and tracking what you liked or didn't like. When you start seeing a trend, use the map to guide you towards others you may like.

Go to a whiskey bar and ask the bar tender for a sampling of scotches from different regions. Many bars will be more than happy to do so.

    Interesting Scotch chart.

This one breaks down Bourbon and Scotch by generality, not by specific brand. Would be nice if they broke it down by brand as done on the Scotch chart.

The way it works is the center wheel is the legend, each blend has a wheel with charted points closest to the flavor corresponding to the areas on the wheel legend.

Liquor store was recently giving out samples of Johnny Walker Blue. As I was thinking of giving my big bro some JWB for his bday, I tried some & liked it. So, I guess I have a reference to start my explorations. Googling reveals a few places in DFW that so scotch flights. Thanks for the suggestions...T
