    Hi all,
I need some help pinpointing the source of this weird sound I am hearing from my 599.

I am hearing a whining sound coming from the engine bay after some hard driving through the canyon roads. The sound intensity correlates with the engine rpm (it becomes very noticeable after 5000rpm). This is a sound is very similar to the sound you hear on the older manual cars (from the 80s) when put in reverse.

When I put in the car in neutral and rev it, the sound is not there. It's only there when the car is under load and under normal city driving, I don't hear the sound at all (at any rpm in fact). It only comes up after some spirited/hard driving. What kind of problem could this be?

Air con compressor perhaps, though this wouldnt explain why it doesnt happen in neutral.

My car started with a strange whining sound like
alternator bearing, at service they topped of the
power steering fluid and the noise disappeared .

I have an annoying low whine sound also. Though mine is at low speed. It is associated with, or rather mirrors the engine revs. Also it is associated with steering to some degree. It intensifies with turning of the steering wheel.

It is covered over by exhaust sound with any kind of acceleration.

It is difficult to locate. I'll check the resevoir and report back.

My problem was solved by topping up my power steering fluid reserve. It was low, so it created that whining sound.
