It's obviously a Calatrava but I have never seen this version with the large roman numerals. I'll look.
I have been unable to find any information on this model. If you are considering it for purchase I would strongly recommend that you take it to a Patek dealer for authentication.
The seller is a Rolex dealer. He took it in on a trade and had it serviced. I’m not sure who by. Matt
Vintage piece. Likely original hands. Nice. Can't tell if the dial has been refinished. How much does he want for it?
I looked at hundreds of Calatravas on Chrono24 (you can do the same https://www.chrono24.com) to see if I could find a match without luck. I then posted a picture of it on the Patek section of the Rolex forum to see if I could get some information. I had two replies, both saying that they thought it was possibly a fake. I find it extremely strange that the Rolex dealer did not know the model number of the watch. Is he an authorized Rolex dealer? Be extremely careful my friend, the only way to be sure of its authenticity is to have it examined by a Patek dealer. There are some very convincing counterfeits around.
I can get close, but I can't get 100% there. Lugs, hands, dial, match but I can't get all three on the same watch. . https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=Lx0c6PaG&id=75535BCB4D5E09C1233A80A6A4926701B823BC92&thid=OIP.Lx0c6PaG64zt5G7IPEuZVwHaHw&mediaurl=https://www.yorktime.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/ppautobig.jpg&cdnurl=https://th.bing.com/th/id/R2f1d1ce8f686eb8cede46ec83c4b9957?rik=krwjuAFnkqSmgA&pid=ImgRaw&exph=550&expw=525&q=vintage+patek+philippe+sub+dial&simid=608030531518598627&ck=C488C60689B95EB3E98CABA8C36D6037&selectedIndex=267&FORM=IRPRST vintage patek philippe sub dial - Bing https://www.tradesy.com/i/patek-philippe-silver-1944-vintage-mens-ref-1543-18k-gold-less-tha-watch/21323037/ Patek Philippe 2420 - AMSTERDAM VINTAGE WATCHES vintage patek philippe sub dial - Bing
This picture came up on a strenuous and lengthy Google search; I know NOTHING about high end watches but always looking to help. This picture's link leads to this page...https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https://www.topdiscountwatches.com/replica-patek-philippe-watches/&psig=AOvVaw1D7O6TgSHvFd4O0nQZwcnV&ust=1615407002711000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CA0QjhxqFwoTCLj8wsuCpO8CFQAAAAAdAAAAABAZ Not going to assume anything because I know NOTHING about watches. You should note that on occasion, even the finest watch makers use "what they have" when they recondition a watch. I have a Vacheron, made in 1953, that went back to the factory in the 80's. They replaced the face with one that was period correct, but not precisely original to the watch. If I didn't have the original manufacturer's paperwork, some might think it was a fake as well, and if I hadn't noted the tiny dent in the rear case prior to shipping it, I might have suspected they swapped my watch out for another. Without the paperwork, I'd be very wary of this watch, and would, for sure, require it be sent to the factory for verification prior to your purchase. D
What's interesting is it almost looks more like a pocket watch face from Patek. The minute ring and 5 minute marks are more like their pocket watch design. Most of the wrist watches use an arrow at the five minute marks, not a line, and the "SWISS" is within the ring. Also the second hand has no ring around it and 5 second marks, also more akin to their pocket watches. Image Unavailable, Please Login All that aside, it's a beautiful piece.
Closest models I saw in the vintage pages were ref 3466 & 3445: 3466 as far I saw only comes in the black dial with roman numerals and silver dial with stick: Image Unavailable, Please Login The 3445 does come in silver dial but all have date with slightly different second dial layout: Image Unavailable, Please Login It's possible the OP version is a "boutique" edition of one or the other.
Thank you to everyone. It is Ref 1461 and was born with a different face. The seller is indeed an authorized Rolex dealer. Matt
By the way Matt I assume you know that the value is significantly hurt by the fact it doesn't have the original dial.
Good to know, the research was fun. Here is one with tear drop lugs and the same minute track, which I had never encountered before. https://robertmaron.com/product.php?productid=19072
Matt, are you saying that it originally came from Patek with that dial or was it replaced with a service dial at a later date? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
