Which AC/DC singer do you prefer?
"Highway to Hell" is the first album I ever bought from them. It quickly became a favorite of mine, a true classic. Every song on the album is great. Over the years, I bought just about all of their albums. Unfortunately, some of them were not nearly as good as "Highway to Hell". I saw them in concert with Brian Johnson, and it was a great show. Both singers have very unique sounds, I just happen to prefer Bon Scott's. Brian Johnson, IMO, sounds like he is straining, like his voice will go at any moment, although his voice does suit their music very well.
Nope. Scott wrote some of the songs and would appear to have recorded one or two before his death, but the lead singer on "BiB" was Brian Johnson.
Bon Scott - their earlier stuff is great, but Back in Black is probably one of the most popular Album/CD ever according to Bill Board (along with Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd).
DOH!!! the Sarge is a dumbs*it Dan! I typed "Highway" but was thinking (evidently not too coherently) "Black in Black". I've had my senior moment...hopefully no more today.
So you are saying that you have heard some "Back in Black" songs sung by Bon Scott? I would love to hear them. Where'd you find them?
yep! Intro is diff, guitar lead is diff too, overall tempo is slightly slower, there's jam at the end and of course, Bon Scott. Song is longer too, 4:29. one of the P2P sites. If you're into P2P, try a search using this- "AC DC - Back In Black (with Bon Scott!!!).mp3"
well...I guess not Dan. After searching quite a bit, hit upon a reference at alt.rock-n-roll.acdc in which is said that its not Bon Scott but from an AC/DC tribute album. Here's the line from the web site- 35. Does Bon Scott sing a version of "Back In Black"? NO. What you heard is from the "Thunderbolt" tribute, with Joe Lynn Turner on vocals. For further info on this and other tributes check the "AC/DC Tributes" section of this document. Just conformed, went to amazon and listened. thought I had found something cool....oh well. still, not a bad cover....
Brothers - one fine night I was within the same distance to Bon Scott and Angus Young as you are to your monitor. The show opened with Sin City and closed with Highway to Hell. Shazbot, Nanu Nanu
The band's material with Bon Scott is superior (other than Back in Black). But, Johnson is the better vocalist. He can easily sing an octave higher than Scott.
Haha, Brian Johnson lives here. You'll see him from time to time around town. I do recall hearing stories about him hitting up the local Coconuts on St. Armands and singing with the band. Weird trivia: Stephen King also has a place here. Considering how SK used so many AC/DC references in his books, I've always wondered if they hang out at all. RMX
What is this AC/DC that you speak of? Has FChat turned into a seminar on electrical engineering? Dale
I think they have some great great songs w/ Brian Johnson. For those about to rock CD and of course, Back in Black. They have scattered great songs on Razor's Edge, Blow Up Your Video, Ballbreaker, etc.. I voted for Bon Scott. Hes got a classic, un duplicated Rock N Roll voice. No one will ever be able to sound like him. Its a long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll ... Come on!! BAG PIPES in a kick ass, timeless Rock N Roll song?? Never again. Big Balls---First AC/DC song I ever heard (off Dirty Deeds). I still laugh when I hear that song and the way he does the lyrics. Side Note: Did you folks know that Ozzy's song "Suicide Solution" was written about his friend, Bon Scott?! Not a lot of people know that.
Bon Scott just had that dirtier, more evil-sounding voice. But Johnson is arguably the greatest replacement ever. How many bands have moved on so seamlessly with a new singer?! I mean, not counting INXS
So I learned something very interesting from a good buddy of mine over the weekend. Of course, Back in Black was Brian Johnson's 1st album with the band. According to many sources, lyrics were all Brian Johnson's. However, audio recordings have started to surface of Bon Scott singing Back in Black; https://youtu.be/7-btFZyIn8o and the lyrics sung by Bon are the same that Johnson sang. I found this all to be quite intriguing.
