OK, I give up. Does anyone know where to get rebuild parts/kits for the Mondial 3.2 Koni shocks. During the suspension rebuild, we found mine completely shot. It seems the rebuilders have a lock on the parts and are contractually obligated to not sell them. The rebuild takes 3 to 5 weeks and we have a little time crunch. (Complaints about the car taking up a lift too long) I would just as soon purchase replacements but nobody seems to have those other than the usual ripoff prices at places that shall remain nameless here. Superperformance is in back order on one the front or the rear so that option is out. We have the resources and expertise to do a good rebuild, just need the parts. Or a good price and availability of replacements. Any ideas? Thanks Dave
Have you looked into this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1988-Ferrari-Mondial-Cab-Rear-Shocks-Springs-Suspension-/250687956458?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item3a5e2aa5ea#ht_2348wt_1396
I have a spare set of front Konis. Good used. PM me. Edwardo see photo of one. Image Unavailable, Please Login
A complete suspension rebuild is my next major project and for that I going with the Carobu adjustable coil-overs. http://www.carobu.com/Mondial_8_diary_August-September_2010-1.pdf Image Unavailable, Please Login
That is the problem. Koni and others don't have a part number for the Mondial. Any idea what part number you ordered and was it for a Mondial or a 308? That is the snag I run into. The Mondial is slightly different than the 308 and 328 in shocks. (Improved in fact but harder to locate) Thanks for all the feedback. I may end up going with propartsusa for the quickest turn around on a rebuild and reasonable prices. Thanks for the other links, ideas and offers. In the end, I'm going to go with rebuilt or new. (46000 miles so time to refurbish anyway) Dave
The Mondial Koni PNs are given in the Mondial8/QV WSM 281/83 on page F20 as: Front = 82 x 1830 (which I think might be better as 82-1830) Rear = 82 x 1831 You can download a copy of 281/83 at http://www.ferraridatabase.com/The_Downloads/Manuals_Workshop.htm (and the SPCs show that all the Mondial Coupes 8/QV/3.2 use the same F PN shocks)
Proparts will be a good service provider for the rebuild. Honestly if you take a twin-tube Koni apart there is not a lot that needs to be replaced if the old piston rod and top seal are still in decent shape. There's a Viton seal around the piston that prevent shock oil from leaking past the small gap between the piston and the bore. There's the top seal and rod guide, maybe a refinish on the piston rod. And maybe they'll need to replace either the compression or rebound valving cartridges, but those don't see too much wear. There's a spring integrated with the rebound valving that controls blow off and that about covers it. Low speed rebound is controlled through shaft bleed I think, so there's no moving parts there. Good luck on the project!
