I am having a difficult time selling this 05' G55, I think the colors are good(gray/black), the mileage (31k) is good (for Colorado) and the car is in great shape. Obviously gas prices have had an effect on it as it has on most SUV's, and it is a rather "bold" everyday car. But I just dont get how it is this difficult to move, somebodys got to want it. I would assume that the person who buys this car is into racing or motorsports in some way. and obviously the demographic of choice would be within 100 miles of a major race track, and somebody who likes this kindof truck. But the question is where is that "somebody" going to see this thing? Its on cars.com and our website, both for $65k but at this point im taking offers. I looked in seattle, miami, chicago, and some other like citys and they seem to move decently there. suggestions?

    thanks

May I ask why you think that? I'd think that your target audience is going to be image-conscious people in metropolitan areas who are unlikely to take the G55 on anything more rugged than a patch of gravel in the pavement.

And the problem you're facing right now is that the G55 is not much of an image boost with the current "green" theme. Just my 2 cents.

And I agree with you completly, and just as you said "Green" vehicles are definatly "in". And if you are image-conscious and "going-green" is a good look, people dont exactly appreciate the G55 in all of its loud, rough, powerful, german hill-billy glory! BUT, if you are the type that cares more about the speeding ticket you could get rather than the amount of gas that you will waste when you lay the hammer down on the on-ramp...."green" means go. Typically people who like stuff like this and would drive it regardless of others oppinions or distaste, find enjoyment in racing or powersports in some fashon(spectator, competitior, ect.). Assuming that there would be a greater concentration of these people in the general area of a race track(where it is part of local culture), I would assume that I would have better luck finding the buyer in that area versus an "un-involved" area. I am not saying that there is not a buyer for this truck in places that are distant, but being that my intentions are to sell the truck as soon as possible, I want the most exposure to the right clientelle.

*Pardon my spelling and grammar, I got a minor brain injury about 3 days ago and Its been a bit goofy ever since....

I think cars.com and autotrader/ebay are your best bang for the bucks. I have sold a few Gwagens and that is where my people came from. Your problem is there are a ton of 05 G55's for sale right now and most want silver or black and they want the Grand edition as well for 05. It will sell, just takes a while.

Ebay, Cars, DuPont, AutoTrader are all good, but quite frankly big SUV's are dead in the water now. There are a ton of G500's and G55's on the market right now and they're not moving anywhere anymore. You're way overpriced as well! The only people who are buying them are looking for a steal.

Well let me begin by saying this, there are lot of cars that are overpriced. let me list a few for you....

    1. Toyota Prius- People are selling them for $2-3k OVER MSRP lightly loaded and heavy miles, yet at the end of the day it ends up costing more money to buy and drive one of these even with the improved gas mileage than it would to buy a V8 4runner and the car is absoloutly soul-less.
    2. Mini Coopers- SAME STORY,people are paying stupid money for these cars that arent even worth close to what they are going for.

    3. Anything with the word HYBRID on it- seriously, its insane. but everybody is basically in a panic to get them and everybody is buying and selling them for a huge premium.

So Trent let me ask you this, If I were to offer you a 2007 Toyota Prius ,Package 6 Touring Edition with 15,000 miles for $22,000, would you buy it??? Well being that you seem to be able to tell me that my car is "Way Overpriced" and must know something about the car market, I would assume that the answer is yes and you would probably turn around and sell it for $27K to a dealer and walk away with 5 grand and a smile. and then the dealer puts an extended service program on it and sells it for $33k and also walks away with a smile on their face too....

    Why?

because that is what people are willing to pay for them at the time.

6 months ago they were easy to get and could be had for accurate value based on what the car actually is.

    A PLASTIC Toyota.

I am selling a car that was designed for military/heavy duty purposes. It feels like you are driving something that is worth the $110k+ price tag. When you close the door, it feels SOLID. when you step on the gas it feels POWERFUL. and when you pull up at the valet, people LOOK. It is a beautiful and well-built car. But most of all, it is unique. Its not like the Lexus or Cadillacs or any other SUV, it is a Mercedes(the GL's and the ML's arent even in the same class). There isnt anything built like this today, everything is built to throw away. I would like to see just one SUV that is being produced today 20 years from now in one peice. everything is plastic and they will deteriorate just like plastic.

Now think about this, Lets say I actually listened to what you said and sold the G55 for WAY less than I am asking right now, say $55K. And lets say I sold it to you.
Well thats a steal. And then you own it now, so would you sell it for 55k? Probably not, probably more like 64-65k. Why? because thats what you could sell it for, especially in Florida where you are.

Furthermore, its easy to say that other peoples stuff isnt worth anything. But that is simply the "my stuff is better than your s***" complex, and I do it too ,everybody does. I am in the car industry, I've heard it all. I talk to 45 people a day at least, I do it 6 days a week. I know where the market is at and I know what they are worth. I did not put the car up on the internet for $73,000 or even for what I own it for ($68k). I am taking a loss on the vehicle for sure and its OK because we got our use out of it and were moving on. I put it up for $65 and taking offers, not to mention the fact that my service to my clients is the kind that keeps people happy coming back for every car they buy. I think that alot of guys on here would say that customer service is the most important thing when they buy cars of this caliber or even a prius for that matter. So lets say my car is really worth $2,000 less, than what im asking. My time and service makes up for that, and it is money well spent.

I do understand that SUV's are soft right now, and that the market has changed. But that doesnt mean that somebody will not buy it unless they "steal-it". I guess it pisses me off when someone gets on here and grills my car and tells me and anyone who might read this thread that my car is overpriced.

    Cheers-

Well, if you're having trouble selling it, then it is overpriced isn't it? Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. So keep lowering your price until someone bites. Then you'll know, by definition, what the correct current "price" of the car is.

I would say you would have to have to be a bit goofy to buy that at that price.

I understand the dynamics of calculating sale price and market value of a car. My Intent was to find the the right market (Location) to sell this vehicle in order to get the best results.
I should have re-phrased the way I described my issue.... I doubt that this car is going to sell in Denver, there just is not much local interest for the G55 in general not just mine. So thats why I was looking elsewhere....

If you read the entire thread, you would have seen that I stated multiple times that I was taking offers....hence, no longer asking the same price....

The market for ugly square gas hogs is over. I'm sure if you will give someone a thousand dollars or so that they would be willing to haul it to the dump for you...

I saw an article somewhere recently about the top cities that are in a "bubble" from the spiraling economy. Maybe you could advertise in some of those areas where the people feel "protected". Even the area I'm in the home prices have stayed relatively strong and judging by main street, there are still plenty of people driving their trucks and SUV's. In fact a G wagon drove by my house just the other day, not to mention a V-10 M5. I wouldn't mind one myself just can't afford one right now :0)

posting it on www.q8car.com or www.autotraderuae.com/

G55s are super popular down here and they sell very very fast especially used ones. Gas is subsidized down here so we don't care about current global gas prices. I think you'll get your USD 65k here, a 2006 with 15k miles sold for USD 95k couple of days ago, so by that calculation you should be able to get your 65k, you've got nothing to loose. Just email them and I think they'll ask you for USD 35 for your ad on q8car.com, you'll have to talk to them about how they want you to pay that. CC or Money Order?

I met a guy at the Benz service center who imported his G500 from the US, saying how he saved tonnes of money due to the weak dollar and generally lower prices in the US, so I'm sure there are other people like him.

    Good Luck,

    S
