Can anyone please advise me where the front side lights are on a RHD 246GT E-series car. Are they in the headlights or do the front indicators light up.

My car is a a euro spec LHD version that spent time in the US and the front indicators light up when the side lights come on, and flash separately when the indicators are operated. The lenses are orange. However as the car is now in the UK i need to make it comply to UK laws to pass the MOT (the annual UK technical inspection). I seem to recall front side lights must be white (clear) lights but maybe my memory is wrong and orange ones are acceptable.

I have a similar question – maybe the same question. When my ’73 European GTS was imported to the US and “federalized”, they changed the front lights to amber from clear and added an air pump. However, the round, side light was also removed and painted over. Simon, is that what you were saying they did to your car when it was in the US or am I just faced with someone’s idea of “improving” the look of the car?

Trying to determine what previous owners, or perhaps an importer, did is nerve racking…

My car had orange indicator lenses on the front and behind these lenses are twin element bulbs, one for indicator and one for side-light (parking light). The wiring to these units looks original and the handbook says that these units have dual functionality. The car also has the small round indicators on the front wings (and these are indicators not parking lights) and these are also part of the euro spec. I do recall that the rear lights where slightly different to the UK ones so I changed these from the ones fitted to UK units. I am trying to remember what the difference was and looking at photos of the car with the 'US' ones fitted it seems both lenses each side were red whilst in the UK the outer ones (indicators) are orange to comply to UK law.

I think the front indicator lenses would have been either orange or white depending upon teh original country the car was supplied to. I expect the answer to this is in Mathias's book.

I was lucky with mine in that the car had very few US mods - rear light lenses as mentioned above, US spec front bumpers (probably changed after one of the originals was damaged), and it had hazard warning lights wired in so there si an extra hole in the dash for the switch. No emission equipment was fitted, no side impact beams in the doors , still has kph speedometer fitted etc.

What country did your car come from? Does it have four red rear lenses?

You can look up your S/N in the back of the compendium, Matthias kindly listed the country of delivery for all 206/246.

Lighting arrangement depends on country of delivery, from my high level understanding (ignoring USA models)...
    - RHD (UK in particular) had orange front indicator lenses, rest are clear.
    - RHD (UK), Germany and Austria had parking lights build into the headlamp unit (may be a few other euro countries)

So yours was originally was from Europe but not Germany or Austria, with clear front lenses with parking lights build in. Rear lenses would be red/orange originally too (USA is all red).
Can't help you with passing MOT though!!

Sorry I should have said mine (#05898) was originally supplied new in Italy.

What colour front lenses and rear indicator lenses would this have had? White for front, yellow for rear, I think.

And can anyone confirm that Italian cars had the front parking lights combined with the front indicators and not in the headlights?

My car is #07228. It is European, and I believe it was delivered to Italy. Currently it has the amber front lenses. The rear lenses are red and amber. But the round side lights have been deleted. Now that I have the inner fender out, I can see that the wiring is still there.
So, apparently, someone thought that removing the round, side light would look cool – they placed metal patches behind the holes and repainted the car. I have the replacement lights and will endeavor not to ruin the paint while I remove the patches.
The Dino Registry suggests that the car was originally Silver – it is now Red. In the trunk where the ignition electronics ar, the paint color appears to be Orange – maybe it’s just the red that wasn’t rubbed out.
My speedometer is MPH, but I installed that because I like to run rallies – the original speedometer is on my shelf and will always remain with the car.
It continues to be quite a learning curve. I must say that the 206/246 part of Ferrari Chat has been great…

Italy certainly clear lenses front, red/orange on rear. My E-series is also Italian delivered and has this config. I can double check the parking lights this weekend.

    Yes!
