Not Fair, Chris !!!!!!! All I can think of is PLN......;(. Can’t separate the two. Kind of like Paul and ‘Hud’. Nah, just being a fussbudget .
Don't you recall going on family vacations halfway across the country in a 56, 60, 62 Chevy? With NO A/C? And an AM radio - IF lucky? I do, well, in 62 anyway... and again in 66.
Well good for you Child of the ‘70’s here.... A/C in Canada ? LOL, yup,..... they rolled down. Individually specific cooling . I never mentioned stock cars of the ‘60’s. Styling was much improved over the moribund 50’s. 64/65 Fords, 66-69 Chargers, 65-69 Sats and Coronets, 66-67 Fairlanes and Comets, 64 Mercs, Furys and Polaras, all very crisp. And easy to determine the actual marque and year of car....even from a distance...
S. Fla here. 'Too hot and humid. From NY 45 years ago and 'have ZERO desire to stay now that I'm retired. ('Only stayed in youth/beginning as there was plenty of racing opportunity 'year 'round (even Max Verstappen did some down here in early '14).....then commitments .....)
Anyone here ever driven well sorted ‘55-‘56 Chrysler 300s spiritedly ? While I’ve never been into racing, I’ve driven (and restored) several and have experienced several other make & model contemporaries, I can see why they were successful. One of my all time favorite drives was in a ‘55 300, trying (successfully) to keep up with an ‘80s(?) BMW attempting to leave me “in the dust” going up the CA Hwy 18 from San Berdoo to Lake Arrowhead, although about 10 minutes after our spirited/twisty sprint, I was leisurely driving around the lake, when the right rear brake drum, along with the wheel & tire decided to work itself off from the axle shaft at the moment I’m going downhill at about 30-35 MPH...
Easy there cowboy......where'd that come from? Also, ZERO desire on my part to return to that hell-hole......(although upstate is perty, and L.I. used to be...)
Long Island still is, east of the William Floyd Parkway..... (For the uninitiated, that's pretty far east.)
Funny, I never made it out to Bridgehampton. The first track I ever made it to was Watkins Glen in 1975.
My first time there was for the '69 Can Am with a couple of fellow slot car racing buddies and one's dad. My first drive in sanctioned competition was there in 2 meets in '77. Speaking of LI, came across this nifty read....Dan and I (me, 24 years later) were born in Port Jeff. 'Only met him and talked a few mins. once at Sebring, '76. https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/dan-gurney-racing-hero-tribute/4780252/

If I read your results correctly, there was a full minute gap at the end between McLaren in 2nd and Siffert in 3rd? That's how dominant the McLarens were, especially that year, when they won every race. I remember that Gurney joined them for one race, hopped into the spare car and finished an easy 3rd to his two teammates!
In a case more closely related to the thread title, in around 1991 I was working in Seattle and attended what was called the Evergreen State Fair (it was really a county fair, definitely not the biggest fair in the state) in the town of Monroe, northeast of Seattle, and the fairgrounds were adjacent to the Evergreen Speedway, a 5/8 mile paved "bullring". They routinely held a (relatively) big-money NASCAR Northwest series race there in conjunction with the fair, and it was common for them to invite a star driver to compete. The year I was there, that star was Bill Elliott! But the locals showed him no respect (on the track, at least) and beat him soundly.
Dan Gurney replaced Bruce Mclaren in the second car after his death and won at least one race. He also did a few F1 races before sponsor conflicts(Dan sponsored by Castrol, Mclaren by Gulf) forced him out. I think these were the last F1 races for Dan. He was replaced by Peter Gethin, the following season Revvie got the seat.
Dan jumped in their backup car in' 69 at michigan, foregoing his own McLeagle ("Eaglised" M6B/Ford), starting last (didn't qualify) and finished third in their "photo" finish.
