The bids have met the reserve.
I can only imagine what a liability that one is going to be.

Looks like it'll need a lot of money to get into even decent shape.

Btw, I've seen a few of these convertible 400/412 - who did these conversions, Stramman?

    Looks like one for our friend Preston400i! :-;

    It looks dreadful, a disgrace.

Funny that there are no pictures with the roof down.

If I hadn't bought the other car, it just might be!

Yes, it's dingy under the hood. Yes, there's a big gouge in the dash. Yes, the painted wheels are ghastly. Yes, those problems may only be the tip of the iceberg, but for the price (currently $15k) I think it's worthwhile. True, it's almost always more economical to go with a good car than to try to restore one yourself, but if nobody restored them, there wouldn't be any left to enjoy. Someone should make it their mission to spruce up this one. I'd make it mine, but you all know where MY time and money are going these days.

Wasn't this the same car Gullwing was offering less than a year ago for around $24k?

    Amen!

The problem right now is with 400's at a very undervalued level it just isn't worth restoring them from a financial perspective. As prices increase, which it appears they slowly are, you'll see more being brought back to thier glory. That looks like it'll still be a while.

It amazes me that you can buy a fairly rare front engine V-12 Ferrari for less than a V-8 308 which are everywhere.

I find it hard to believe this statement:

"This is one Ferrari that is definitely worth more as a convertible than a coupe, even though it is post factory modified."

I'm with Preston on this one!

Just to remind you guys again (especially Dave ;) ), when I got my 330 2+2, everyone said the same thing about these cars being money pits. I restored mine for the love of it and until last year I called it the U-boat because I was so underwater in it.

With that in mind, I've been able to enjoy and use a front engined V-12 Ferrari for over 10 years! It is particularly good for Christmas tree shopping!

    Regards,

Now Art, I didn't say it was a bad idea to restore one, I said it didn't make FINANCIAL sense with the current vales of the car.
    (I caught your humor)

So we're going to talk about doing it because you love them without the financial concern? In that case I'm screwed. If you only knew how much dough I have in a few cars that I restored because I love them. I stopped saving the invoices because I didn't want to know how much it really was. Besides if the tall blonde woman that runs my house can't find more invoices then she won't know how much was really spent.

Wait. The dashes didn't come from the factory like that? Mine is exactly the same. It has a homeless person living inside.

    Dave,

If you have a tall blond running around your house, let alone running your house, the cars should be cheap in comparison... ;)

    Stan and DM18,

    Thanks!

Mine isn't the prettiest car out there (it still has some of it's original paint!) but I've been told that it is one of the best diving examples of the model - It's just a happy car.

To me the point of these old cars is to enjoy them fully and use them as intended.

In my opinion, the Ferrari GT to buy with the intention of regular use today is a 365/400/412 series 2+2 - great car with a reasonable entry price - just get one with a good PPI or be prepared to go Preston's route!

    Regards,

    Art S.
