I've got an '84 Cabrio with the dreaded metric wheels. Though there is plenty of tread left, I do see some signs of dry rot on the tires. Rather than replace the tires, I'm thinking of replacing wheels and tires.

I have a chance to buy a set of wheels from a T cabriolet. They are 16x7 for the front and currently have 205/55/16 tires. The rears are 16x7 with 225/55/16 tires. Will these fit my QV? Will I need to replace the lug bolts?

    Thanks for educating me!

US model specs for comparison, but are your tires the same size all around, I thought all Mondials had a staggered configuration, maybe not the older ones?

Thanks. Mine are the 240/55/390 all around. From all those threads, it appears the later Mondi T wheels will work fine, so I guess I'll pull the trigger on them. Thatnshould give me the opportunity to buy other tires than the Michelins that are so hard to obtain and expensive.

Sounds like you should be fine with 3.2 or t wheels. No need to go Michelin or Good Year, Yokohamas, Bridgestones, Continentals are just as good IMO.

    All the best !

Just choose your lug nuts, not sure if your existing ones work on t wheels. Ask Daniel from RicambiAmerica.com.
They come in different shank lengths, 30,35,40mm long head (early ferrari wheels)

I replaced the metric wheels of my 3.2 (ABS) with 16" Mondial T wheels without any problem. Even the standard lug bolts fitted perfect (8 turns). But beware, I had no problem because the offset (ET) of the 3.2 (with ABS) wheels is similar to the Mondial T wheels.

    Here are some measurements:

    Mondial 3.2 (with ABS) wheels:

    Front : 160TR390 offset 43.5 mm
    Rear : 180TR390 offset 51 mm

    Mondial T wheels

    Front : 7j x 16 offset 50.8 mm
    Rear : 8j x 16 offset 51 mm

The Mondial T front wheel has a slightly larger offset, this places the center of the wheel 7.5 mm to the inside. This can be corrected with a spacer, I didn't do that. According to the owners manual the toe-in and camber should be readjusted.

If the offset is smaller, the center of the wheels will be placed more to the outside, this can not be corrected with a spacer!

The length of my lug bolts is 66.4 mm.

It's advisable to check the offset.

Great advice Jeka, off sets and tire tread direction is important when its time to mount on your car.

btw WESTYGUY, your car should look like this with the t wheels. Anyone notice turning heads, ah FERRARI, the essence of male muchisimo !

I forgot to mention the shaft length of my lug bolts is 40 mm. And last but not least I forgot to mention the handling improvement of the car with the Mondial T wheels and modern tires is incredible. Much more comfort, quieter and more precise steering.

Sounds like even if I have to change the bolts and add adapters it is worthwhile. What I can't get over is how it will look. I just can't understand how the new wheels will change the color from black to red! All joking aside, the look is great. I've been afraid to drive my car anywhere near aggressively with the existing 12 year old tires, and have a hard time justifying replacement with the 390's again. I'll just keep one as a spare.

All I have to do now is finish my water pump replacement and get the car of the jack stands.

I guess I made a mistake... :) I meant the length of the lug bolts excluding the head is 40 mm.

The threaded part is 19mm, the non-threaded part 21 mm and the head is 27 mm.

I put the later t wheels on my 82 Mondial 8 without spacers--
Handling feels better with modern tires
Existing Lug bolts worked fine--but cross check that they have the same amount of bolt through your wheels in question.
