I am considering converting from wheel bolts to wheel studs, which are far safer on track (they’re required by most racing organizations), they’re more convenient (interchangeability with many spacers easily without needing to buy new wheel bolts), and also ease of use (no more wheel hangers required for taking on and off wheels). There are some weeks where I literally take my wheels on and off, change wheels, etc a dozen times whether it’s at the track, bleeding between sessions, or for whatever other reason. It is so easy to cross thread wheel bolts when you take wheels on and off so frequently. Wheel studs just make sense for so many reasons and above all else they’re the safest option.

Fortunately our wheel hubs have the standard M14x1.5 threads, making a conversion from bolts to studs quite simple.

Who makes the best uncompromising quality studs?

Here are some options I’m considering:

    https://www.acerracing.com/collections/porsche/products/porsche-titanium-wheel-studs-nuts-m14x1-5?variant=42862777041144

Has anyone here converted their 458 or 488 from bolts to studs? What length and company did you go with? What nut shape did you go with? Who makes the best uncompromising quality studs? Any tips or advice is appreciated.

If we were talking Porsche I could help. I did this on mine when I tracked. As far as bolt companies...you might want to go over to Rennlist the Porsche forums and ask on the 997GT3 page and on the Drivers Ed and Racing page. You will get great feedback there as there are tons of track guys there. I used ARP. Rennlines are Bildon or use to be and were good, Race-Studs too. Make sure you get bullet nose and correct seats ball, conical etc...nuts for your wheels. Ask whoever you buy the studs and nuts from if they are R12, R13 or R14 radius nuts if you wheels seat is that. I do not know what stock Ferrari wheel seats are though.

I just replaced the wheel studs on my Toyota. They are pressed in from the back of the hub; so when you torque down the lug nut, the clamping pressure applied to the stud is attempting to pull it through the entire hub/flange. The wheel studs also have splines on them, in order to prevent the stud itself from turning as you remove/install the lug nut.

If you just thread studs into the hub of the 458, I think you risk setting up a situation where the stud itself could loosen when you repeatedly install/remove the lug nuts. Do you really wanna have to check to confirm that all the studs are securely seated each time you remove the lug nuts?

Here's something I saw the other day on YouTube. Maybe something along these lines might be a better approach?

You use thread locker and torque them, so they are pretty well stuck in there. That said, you should check them every so often, but not every time you take the wheels off.

I’ve done stud conversions on BMWs, just get something bullet nose and high quality and you’ll be good to go.
