I know there were interior and trim changes, any other significant changes? Also was reliability better in the 575 than 550,if that was in question and lastly was the shrinking dashboard in all the models, seems like I keep reading about that on ALL Ferrari modles...PS what's that fix cost??? dogdoc

The 575M is an entirely differnt model. The M stands for Modified.

Engine size rose from 5.5 to 5.7 litres as the name entails, and power rose from 485 hp and 419 lb-ft on the 550 to 515 hp and 434 lb-ft on the 575M. I think the redline also rose 50 rpms.

M on the 575 is the same as on the 456M: Modificata.

575 had numerous changes. Most 575s had the F1 transmission; all 550s are manuals. A greatly revised interior. The 575 has revised motor mounts which are less prone to failure (An expensive problem if that happens; fairly easy and inexpensive to switch out the 550's mounts; many owners have already done it). 575 originally had a less sporting ride than the 550, but that was remedied early in the production run; 575s also had various suspension tuning packages available, and carbon fiber interior options, different wheels, etc.

Dash shrinkage occurs on all models and is a function of exposure to sun and heat. The dash on mine is perfect, but the rear deck parcel shelf has started to pull away because the previous owner wasn't as zealous about putting a sun shield on the rear window. The cost to put new matching hides on the dash is generally between $3-5,000, but can be all over the lot depending on where you're located and who does it.

Reliability is going to be a function of how well the car was maintained and how it was driven. In general, ultra-low mileage garage queens are going to have more problems than cars driven a couple of thousand miles a year.

The 550 is manual shifting only, the 575 has the paddle-shift (F1) option, which most first owners ordered.
The 550's rear is not decorated, while the newer car has "575M" on the vertical part of the trunk lid.
The 19" wheels were an option on the 575
There are no lights in the radiator inlet, and the headlights are different on the 575
The hood scoop is 15% larger on the 575
Taz probably knows at least 10 other differences....
