Hmm, I think that's a bit high. I would say $315,000 at the max.

The 612 was probably a sales disappointment. Probably caused them to adjust expectations on the FF accordingly.

    But a flop? nah.

I agree it was no flop. But I bet they wish they sold about 20% more of them in it's lifecycle.

So, I believe we are in agreement.

they sold ~3500 612s in five or six years. not bad for the big 4-seater Fcar. (I think the 456 sold ~3200 cars over the same time span)

I wonder how many came to the states. I have never ever seen one on the road. In fact, the only time I've seen one was at an auto show. I've never seen one at a dealer or the dealer's workshop.

I can't say that about an F40 or F50 or Enzo or 288 GTO.

I see a fair number around LA, I knew of at least three in STL. I think for the most part they are bought by people who want to blend in, and configured as such (mostly black, dark blue, gray, etc). they won't stick out like a supercar.

that said I would say most stayed in Europe or went to Asia, Russia, etc.

No one anywhere needs a Ferrari. The FF and the Cali are attempts to reach out to a less hard core market segment. One either unfamiliar with, or unwilling to, put up with, the "quirks" of Ferrari ownership. Hence the auto transmissions, front engines and the switch from belts to chains.
Four wheel drive is more about getting large amounts of power to the road not rain and snow but that doesn't mean that some drivers won't assume that it makes the car easier to drive.
We at F-Chat tend to underestimate how many people are scared off of Ferrari ownership.

MSRP is probably a much larger barrier to ownership than belts or mid engines.

    True dat.
But any barrier is worth tackling. I know a number of people who like Ferraris and could easily afford one, but wouldn't consider owning one due to practical considerations.
