wow, just getting back to this thread after a week or so...very nice food here gents. (we have been eating crap...in fact, the best pic I have is a meal I tossed in the trash...this ribeye from Whole Foods here was so chewy and weird tasting that I just gave up and binned it. Ate the "meh" mushrooms and veggies. Finally found a great fish monger and butcher that is doing delivery and have that for next 3 nights...hopefully something picture and post worthy...) Wow.... amazing. We've given up on "curbside takeout" for those reasons - it's $35 and garbage food and you can't "send it back". I'm all for supporting the local restaurants but not when they puke out some rotting-ingredient food for regular prices knowing full-well you can't much complain. We tried a local place for BLT sandwiches and the tomato was ROTTEN and probably the bacon too. I know they're trying to stay afloat and the rules have changed but ya gotta draw the line somewhere. Yesterday's Cinco de Mayo feast. Soft tacos. All home made - chicken dish and sauce, rice, refried beans, salsa, and avocado dip. The wife did a fantastic job getting creative with what we had in the pantry. Sipped some Patron Anejo too. And leftovers today! Apparently, the guy from Tejas didn't get the memo about Cinco de Mayo! Funny enough, several of our friends are from Mexico, and it seems to be more of a holiday here than there. In fact, a good friend rolls his eyes every time it is mentioned, so, of course, I text him every Cinco! T
Hmm. It really takes some doing to make a ribeye unpalatable! I think the only one I can recall ever having thrown away was a chuck eye we got from a butcher in New Orleans years back. Was tougher than shoe leather. T
it was a first for me. I cooked it as I usually do, and it was the appropriate color inside. Just a chewy "odd" tasting piece of beef. I could have kept trying to eat it, but it wasn't good to eat and we were unsure if it was spoiled or something. Oh well...there's a first for everything I guess. Have some very fresh nice looking Cod ready for tonight (the 8-year anniversary of our serendipitous first meeting in Amalfi).
Have you posted pics of those T-bones yet? (after my steak fail, I'm in need of some good beef pics...)
Since you have been a lot of fish lately, maybe some cross flavors from that? Could have been older "boeuf". Good luck w/ the anniversary dinner! T
Gotta agree with this - any curbside take out that we've tried, we always end up disappointed. Given what you pay for it, the quality is generally lacking. I'd rather spend the $$ on a cut of prime beef. The flip side is that the kids now realize that their parents can actually cook a decent meal!
Don't you just love eating something that you think might be spoiled and then having to wait 24-48 hours to find out if you we're right or not!![/QUOTE]
ohhh.... (my reaction to your post reminded me of my favorite youtube video of all-time...its food related...sorta...with your doggie, you might enjoy this)
Funny!!!!! My dog now, he doesn't care about food, he loves toys more. I had a female Rottweiler, she was crazy about food. Even a crumb was motivation to get her to do anything.
Not dinner yet, but what I did last night. Cut 6 lamb chops into cubes, semi-froze them, and processed in the cuisinart with some additional rendered lamb fat. Will post when grilling. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Okay, this fish I actually liked..actually, truth-be-known, I loved it. This cod was likely swimming fairly recently, it was so fresh. And even the asparagus from the local supermarket was actually good. We are so used to subpar veggies here. And I didn't screw up the cook thankfully. (there is some leftover very good tartare sauce from the fried fish and chips yesterday in the pic, but in the end we didn't even put it on this cod...would have been a bit of a food sin). Anyways, this came out so good, I'm gonna post a few pics along the way. Great meal for a very happy day for us!
