They worked! I need to improve the visual presentation, but the flavor was there and it tasted incredible, which is all that mattered to me. Depending on which recipe you read, there are many different variations of liquor. I've read Grand Marnier, Vin Santo, Amaretto, Sweet Marsala, Dark Rum, etc. We had some Bacardi rum, brandy, and coffee liqueur in the cabinet, so I experimented with them and coffee and espresso. I finally settled on medium roast coffee and coffee liqueur to dunk the ladyfingers in. But after "sampling" all those combinations, I was lucky I could still stand up much less whip it all together! The problem is that you cannot eat just one. Shhhh. She is a well-trained housewife. Of course, I am one lucky person and know exactly what we have together.
