I just went to sign documents on my F8 and I noticed that the car had 44 miles on it. Seemed excessive. Apparently, the car was received by the dealership with 24 miles and then the Master Technician PDI'd it a put 20 more. It seems that more than a PDI, it was a joyride.

Wanted to compare What were the average delivery mileage and what are your thoughts?

    Thanks

Pista had about 70kms or so. It's pretty standard so I was told with some cars having nearly 100kms. Porsche normally has @ 20kms on odo or less. I'd say the more mileage means more joyriding and/or mileage spent trying to fix things before delivery - things that should have been right before the car left the factory. But hey it is a Ferrari don't forget.

So your Pista was 70 km, which translates precisely to 44 miles. Interesting, it is a standard thing or pure coincidence?

Id say just coincidence. I cant recall the exact figure but am sure it was @ 70kms. I had seen others which had come in, one at 50kms the other 80 odd so its pretty random. I recall asking about it as I was surprised to see the odo as high as it was and was told that they see a variance of between 50 and 100 sometimes a bit over 100. I would have been happier with 50 or less but its the luck of the draw.

458S had less than 30 miles IIRC. Someone at the docks had fun with your F8?

Isn't every Ferrari taken out for a test drive in Italy? Or do they no longer do that?

I could have sworn my dealer told me that sometimes cars even come in with small rock chips from having been test driven on Italian roads, but maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

My 488 GTB had something like 67 miles on it as I remember.

As far as the PDI drive, keep in mind it takes about 5-8 miles just to bring the gear oil up to temperature :) I think I'd more concerned if the PDI test drive was anything less than 20 miles actually.

Circa 50-miles is pretty normal from what I've seen and been told.

A combination of their initial spank around Maranello, plus your PDI tech, who would want to be happy that brakes were bedded a little etc...

I wouldn't let it concern you.

Has anyone had chips from those first miles upon delivery? I am thinking of getting PPF from a third party rather than from Ferrari directly.

No chips on delivery, but I'd have a full paint correction done on the car before I put PPF on it. Even when new, paint needs some care before being PPF'd. And depending on the car/color/etc, I'd argue that PPF can hurt the appearance of the paint/depth/color

Definitely have a 3rd party do it. Cheaper and better.

Yes, all Ferraris are tested in Fiorano. I was asking because I didn't know:

    1) If the odometer is actually already connected by the time they test drive it, I guess it is.

    2) I wanted to know if it was too much mileage. You know, what is considered joy ride versus true PDI. I guess it is very difficult to separate the two when it is a Ferrari. And just think, he gets paid for that too. If you think about it, 5 miles is a long distance. Perhaps not for a track test drive. I was thinking 20 miles would be appropriate but 44 is quite excessive. Now, I know. About rock chips, I didn't see any. But I am still concerned I may be missing a few since Rancho Mirage is just desert and what a better place to get rock chips on a 45k paint job than a PDI test drive than this. I still have some homework to do.

3rd party. Trust me on that one. That is all I am going to say.

Agree on all of the above. Unfortunately, I am not going to sacrifice my Bianco Italia to the desert. I will have to sacrifice the color a little bit.

Even if it isn't cheaper. My guy will likely be more expensive than the dealer and I am still going to him.

Likely you will think differently after you put a few thousand miles on the car.
