I'm considering new tires, but would like some input from others on what they have on their cars. Make, model prices, photos, ride, performance-dry/wet, braking? Any show rules that apply to tires? I don't think that the Goodyear tires that were stock on the USA Mondial T are still around. I hear good stuff about the Goodyears from guys who go to the track. I don't go to the track, but the track guys I know swear by the wet performance of them on other makes of cars. Gateway Int'l has some ground water seepage issues. I am looking for a good all round backroad and highway cruising tire with good wet/dry performance as well as looks smart. All opinions welcome. Anyone? Thanx, Dave
Just talked about this a little in a thread about wheel/tire upgrades in the tech section - may be good to follow both. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=140660 Good luck!
Yokohama ES100's on my 16 inch stockers (priced right, nice all around tire). Bridgestone S03's on my 18 inch upgrades ('spensive but they work well).
BTW my Mondial T came from the factory with Michelin MXX, which are not available anymore. I am considering newer Michelin PS. Upgrading to 17" would be a solution too, but I have yet to see a really nice wheel that will fit the Mondial well.
Personal opinion, but I have 348 rims on my 3.2. I think they look better on the 3.2 and T than any other option.
Ive been considering 348s rims, but I do like the traditional Ferrari 5 stars design. Ive seen some 288 replicas that looks good on a 328GTB, but how will they look on a Mondial T? May be Ill stick with 16, there are Michelin Pilots in the proper size for a decent price at Tirerack.
Have some somewhere but nothing recent or very good. Thanks for reminding me I need to take a few. When I do, I'll post them on the let's see our Mondials thread. Ciao, John
The nice thing about the Ferrari 5-star from the 348 is that it just screams Ferrari. Even the most casual observer would never mistake your car for a Corvette! Though I'm partial to the numerous curves and fender flares of my 3.2, the positive effect of the 5-star on the mondials are dramatic. IMHO, there isn't a more dramatic positive wheel change for any other Ferrari. My 3.2 has 348 wheels w/ Goodyear F-1's (275/40/17 rear, 225/45/17 front). Optimal performance and looks for the car.
I just put a set of Bridgestone RE960 A/S tires on my '82 Mondial 8. I replaced the stock metric wheels with the new Superformance 16" wheels. These tires are size 225/55-16 all around. The steering effort & ride are greatly improved over the old Michelin TRXs.
Just had the Michelin PS cup mounted and aligned by Competizione in Gaithersburg who did a great job at a competitive rate. Car feels like a new car now. Thanks guys. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just put a set of General UHP Exclaims on my '89 t-coupe (225/45-17-F and 245/45-17-R), which has 17" 348 wheels. They stick extremely well and are much quieter than the Michelin Pilots I replaced them with, which lets the glorious sounds of the engine permeate the cabin...heavenly!! Note: These tires are rated a notch below Z-rated but are at the top of Tirerack's list of ultra high performance tires; and the price is unbelievable.
No, they have about 20 miles on them. Meaning they have at least 4,980 miles left on them! Those tires have the highest adherence rating for dry and wet summer DOT approved tires.
Hey Dave, hi to you, your family and Sera Rachel, Sophia and many other "high steping Mondial t gals" are wearing Goodyear F1-GS-D3 shoes. They seem to be a bit wider in foot print than other brands and thus, give the wheels a smart, gnarly look. They handle beautifully, are super quiet, and he price is very attractive It's absolutely my recommendation for Sera. Stay in touch--------- Cheers, hank Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks like I am going to be trying to find the Goodyears at a good price. Any other good places? i have tirerack.com.
Hank, Are those 205/55/16 (f) 225/55/16 (r) or have you changed to 225/50/16 (f) 245/50/16 (r) on the Goodyear F1 tires?
Hey Frank, Yes, they are 55s in the quoted sizes. They do have a wider look, don't they. What I like is the way the edge of tread lines up with the edge of the stock rim - and it's uniform on both front and back. I feel it's a great tire match for the stock 7" & 8" rims. Cheers, Hank
