I have had a 650S spider for a couple of weeks and really enjoyed it. Great all round package. But a bit wary of the issues. And further depreciation.

I like the idea of the Boxster Spyder except well I sound vain but there are so many Porsches in London and this would just look like another one. Wife would probably not allow.

Very cool cars. But the 575 is just better to drive than the Vanquish S (in my view)...

I agree they are great, but I'd still tend towards the Vantage V12 manual of a similar era for extra verve. But still the hesitation that all Astons except the Valkyrie look basically the same.

    This is exactly my dilemma.

if I cashed out all my cars, I'd have (net of fees) maybe £350k plus £100k to put in, meaning £450k. Add the requirement for not much depreciation and the choice for the single, hero car is pretty narrow.

It wouldn't get me in to, say, a TDF or a Daytona or a 275.

It would get me into a 812 GTS while keeping the 430 spider.

Or a 812 SF while keeping the 430 and the Brabus. But both 812s would depreciate and not pass that test, even though the 812 SF is an all time great.

Or, I could maybe possibly swap out the Brabus for an 812 SF and keep the two Ferraris. It would require some corporate raiding of the savings, and I would do it, but I am not wealthy enough to explain to my wife that we have bought an 812 that will lose us 100k over a few drives in the next two years.

for the 812, best to wait a couple of years til it has hit bottom. I guess...?

You already have some of the best cars in my opinion. There’s something about some of the 80’s - early 90’s Ferraris that have been modernized a bit that catch my eye. Truly under appreciated.

I agree 100% (the Maranellos are my all-time favorites), but given that you don't really drive your cars too much, the Vanquishes are one of the few iconic cars from the last 25 years that fits in that budget, and the manual takes care of the chief complaint on these cars, it was worth a try :)

What my “dilemma” also shows is that there’s a big gap between these mid level collector modern classics like a gated 575 and 430, and the “next level up”. £100k extra doesn’t get you anywhere.

This discussion has been pretty useful in helping me think through. Current favoured options are keeping the 2 Ferraris and swapping the Brabus for either an Aston Vantage Volante V12 manual, or for contrast a Conti GT V8S Cabrio from 2018. It might be useful to have back seats in at least one of the cars I own as I do have a wife and 2 children lol (even if we almost never need a car together as I mentioned at the start of the thread).

Neither of those options would involve me adding any extra cash, which possibly shows the lack of options to upgrade.

Then nab an 812 when they near the bottom of their depreciation curve.

Meanwhile, any other ideas very welcome.

What about selling the Brabus and going Corvette C8, totally different experience and I'd imagine a Corvette is perhaps less common in London than a Porsche or Aston.

    This is easy

    575 manual
    812 SF or GTS

+ an Abarth 595 Competizione or EsseEsse for the city

    This is the perfect combo

Rare to see a recommendation for a Vette on this forum, but point well made - touché, my friend! :)

Where I live sadly we have been denied all Vette's from C4 onwards and looking at the UK market I'd imagine they are fairly rare there too. From where I am sitting its a different experience for relatively speaking not a huge amount of money.

Mmm yes. Lovely cars. But very pricey for the nice ones.

On the Corvette front, I am just not sure. We don't have the cultural draw here. I see how they are an icon. I drove a V10 Viper for a while and didn't really understand it. Just like I guess many from the US wouldn't understand a 205 GTI.

How about the best ever American car IMO, '05-'06 Ford GT? Harry Metcalfe loves it, so do all the Brit you tubers.

True, so does Clarkson. I have never driven one. £400k for a good one. Which means gated 575 + gated 430 + Brabus + £50k or so.

What do people think? Is Ford GT that good? I guess it's subjective but it's supposed to be pretty damned good. But then so are my current cars.

Should not be anywhere near that much for a nice driver with miles (but I don't know the UK market).

The best two , informational videos....and yes, it IS that good....best $182k spent EVER (Feb 2020, pandemic present)

    @Themaven
was just thinking the same thing.
you have two great ferraris and a great new modern car for reliable travel.
    keep them all

now i recommend a vintage ride. something that gets you into different events altogether.

now if your budget is 100k sgterling, then you can consider
    - older 911 or 356
    - older alfa, lancia
    - older mercedes

    other thoughts....
    - if you get a lancia aurelia pre 1957 you can apply to run in the mille....
    - if you get a mercedes pagoda top SL you will enjoy life in a different way....
    - if you get a 356 you will see what porsche was like before the ubiquitous 911

(my own personal recommendation is a pagoda)
