I've always used Turtle Wax' MAX Power car wash, just because It's available at the Dollar General down the road. But I've only ever had mid-level sedans and SUV's and wanted to make sure I'm just a quality product on the 430 (also being that it's 17 years old) and has a PPF on the hood, mirrors etc...

    What do you use?

Most of us just wipe the car down with a no water type spray wash. Chemical Guys or Adam’s makes good stuff too.

Only when mine gets really dirty will I spray it with the hose. That’s only happened once in 3 years.

Interesting. I got my car a few weeks ago, and it was raining when it was delivered. I whipped it down, but noticed water marks and a bit of dirt on the diffuser and wheels, so I wanted to give it one good wash 1st.

Unless its therapy and you have the time, call a pro to truly clean, detail, and show you how to maintain and protect your finish - paint, PPF, glass, wheels, carbon fiber, interior, etc.
This way you don't damage your finish, don't buy expensive stuff you won't use, and its done right.
Plenty of good detail guys that have shops and that are mobile.

    Just my two cents

Same here, my whole "detailing closet" exists of Chemical Guys products, used plenty of other brands in the past like meguiars, turtlewax, petes and many more, but i find the chemical guys products the easiest in use, and they dont give me a headache from the chemical smell like alot of other brands do when doing more than just washing the car...

I use Swissvax products: they’re awesome.

Some of their specialty products can save you a lot of money, e.g. to rejuvenate rubber.

It doesn’t have to be complex or take a lot of time: using the ‘two bucket’ method gives already great results. Waxing your own dream car with your bare hands is a really special experience.

Personally, I would stay far, far away from using Turtle Wax (or any other product from a dollar store) on any car that is special to me. My guess is that these cheap car washes are too harsh and do not properly lubricate the paint surface to avoid scratching.

I like P21S Shampoo. I also find their Paintwork Cleanser excellent for cleaning paint every now and then.

The wash instructions given in post #7 are great for a dirty car. When my cars are only slightly dirty (i.e., dust from sitting in the garage or light dirt from a drive or two in the counrty on dry roads), I use Optimum No Rinse (ONR) to wash my cars. I use a two-bucket method with the ORN and first spray the car down with a "quick detailer" made from the ONR wash. Or, if the car is only a bit dusty, I simply clean using the quick detail spray made with the ONR. The key is to use a lot of product and a light touch to avoid marring the paint.

+1 the dealer's detailer turned me on to it years ago. Especially their leather cleaner, wipes to a dry matte finish without leaving an oily sheen.

The real trick is once you satin wrap or satin/"Stealth" PPF you can use a duster to brush off dust and mud, and then non-ammonia window cleaner - or Chemical Guys matte wrap spray - and wipe and spritz the car clean in about 5 minutes flat.

I use Meguiar's as well for quick touch ups between drives too. Good product and trust me I've tried just about all of them . Just spray liberally so there's no dry spots and potential scratches from the microfiber towel. As far as washing any brand name car soap is fine. If you have a foamer better yet but if not soap in a bucket with water and another bucket with clean water to rinse the sponge or mitt off. Don't have to kill a mouse with an elephant gun.

A couple of different thoughts on this; newer cars have newer better sealing seals, say next to the side window glass etc. Older cars 250's etc., may have older sealing rubber that may have hardened or shrunk a little and may not keep water from running into the doors. These older construction techniques usually have alloy door skins wrapped around steel door frames. Water sitting down there may/will cause damage. Ditto for those wire wheels. Have used Meguiar's Quick Detailer for the random dust over the years and have no problem with even older paint.
