I think they are 1/18th, I have two Ferrari Barchetta Ferrari 250LM They are in black cardboard boxes, say "Hot Wheels" somewhere on the box and little plastic see through viewing windows. They are screwed to a plastic black base and are pretty well done, for average "toys" but not well enough to be real collector's model cars. I would think that Mattel had to present a good case to Ferrari to get the rights, and stepped up their game to make them. I bought them used so have no idea of what they usually cost new. I would hope there's ten to twelve in the series and will look for more if there are more.... I realise that for serious model collectors these may be too common but I find them satisfying for the "used" price...
Basically every Ferrari road car ever made, except for many of the 250 variations and certainly every modern car produced.
I'm pretty sure HW will never produce these cars in 1/18. F50GT will be made by TrueScale. It was promised for July, 2011. 16M is to be made by BBR in 1/18, will be out in a few months (in pair with the Scuderia Berlinetta). It will be die-cast. I1ve seen it at the 2011 Nürnberg Toy Fair - it was quite impressive. P4/5 was planned but cancelled by HW. It is made by APM (Auto Place Model) of Hong Kong and some other resine manufacturers in very limited quantites. 288 GTO Evoluzione is IMHO the ugliest Ferrari ever made so I see no chance to get it from Hot Wheels ever. I have a basic 288 GTO Evo model made by Revell. It was packed into Universal Hobbies and Jouef boxes as well.
TrueScale went bankrupt before the F50GT. Very sad. I wish they have made the F50GT, release it and then go bankrupt. I'm sure if KYOSHO makes a 1:18 288 GTO Evoluzione would be a great looking model as opposed to Jouef or Revell I CAN GUARANTEE 100% P4/5 by APM is so expensive you can feed 3 families in Somalia for a year. Hotwheels made a F430 Spider already. Why can't they make a 16M? Why because of licensure again.? All that bull crap. Hotwheels / Mattel was given the license to produce Ferrari models. Man....make an F50GT at least. What a shame.
Think for a minute about this. If i was them I would not make an F50GT either. Outside the Ferrari crowd and the supercar fans it is pretty much unknown. It holds no significance of any sort in Ferrari's history. There are only two of them in the world and getting to one of them to make it in scale may not be as easy as you think. And then someone is making it in 1:18 already- as far as I know TSM did not go out of business and even if they did, the model was actually made by Fujimi and they were going to just distribute it. So it is only natural to assume that even if they fall from the face of earth, fujimi will still make it with someone else. And they were only red. When you put all this together it makes no financial sense whatsoever to produce this model instead of the dozens "missing links" in Ferrari's history, that Mattel can make in five different colors each and everyone instantly recognizes. About the P4/5 IIRC the license for that particular car is held by Mr. Glickenhaus himself, not Ferrari. And he chose to give the rights to produce it to BMA43 NOT PMA, who made it against his permission (and I am not sure to what level of accuracy) Regarding the 288Evo, I think Mattel should first make a decent looking 288GTO before it sets to make one of the ugliest creations to ever leave Maranello, that is based on the GTO anyway. Now about the 16M I think Mattel should have made it and frankly they may one day. After all they already have 60% of the tooling. I think whoever designed their 430Scuderia had a brain fart when doing the job. All they had to do is to design it with separate bumpers instead of molding them into the body. If they did now all they had to do was to make a new body mold and use everything from the coupe.
It would be great for Mattel to make an F50GT in an Elite and Super Elite model in 1:18! A lot of car nuts and enthusiast know this car. If they do make it, it would be the only F50GT model with opening parts, then there is the price of affordability as opposed to Versus or maybe APM. Guarantee it will be sold out amongst diecasters all over the world!!!!! And it will share the same success as the ELITE 458, and 288GTO that are now almost rare and when you find them they are double the price! If the red 2008 Ferrari California offered as an Elite and now almost impossible to find, what more if Mattel does make an F50GT. They would make a fortune selling it. But all of this is just a wish. Mattel has a lot more Ferrari cars to think about. Heck..! they still need to release that black Elvis Presley's car which is taking a long time. Then the FF, and the 458 Spider.
You are spot on mate. For the prices of new and used one's available to buy, I am very happy with my 1:18 Hotwheels collection. Here is a list of what I have. I have mainly only stuck to the road car models, so I don't have any of the racing Ferraris. *Except the Enzo FXX, it came with the first lot off Ebay.** Some I bought, some came with the first 20 I bought as part of a collection on Ebay 2 yrs ago. I will soon replace some Burago versions with Hotwheels versions. So my Hotwheels list will grow by a few more models. I am looking forward to Hotwheels making more and more road going Ferrari models over the years. Enzo- (Hotwheels Elite) California- (Hotwheels Elite) 599- (Hotwheels Elite) FXX- (Hotwheels Elite) 575M- (Hotwheels Elite) 250 GT Lusso- (Hotwheels Elite) 365 Daytona- (Hotwheels Elite) 430 Scuderia- (Hotwheels Elite) 246 GT- (Hotwheels Elite) Mondial 8- (Hotwheels Elite) 410 Superamerica- (Hotwheels Elite) 125S- (Hotwheels Elite) 250 California GT (Hotwheels Elite) F430- (Hotwheels) SuperAmerica- (Hotwheels) 365 GTS/4- (Hotwheels) 250 LM- (Hotwheels) 550 Barchetta- (Hotwheels) 360 CS- (Hotwheels) 246 GTS- (Hotwheels) 166 MM Barchetta- (Hotwheels) 512M- (Hotwheels) 360 Spider- (Hotwheels) 430 Spider- (Hotwheels) 612- (Hotwheels) 458- (Hotwheels) 599 GTO- (Hotwheels)
Good list there Pap. I have a few too but would like more. I have about 20 or so Ferrari F1 cars at 1/18 also. Here are 2 of my favourites Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks mate, those two of yours a nice. I will stay away from the F1 cars as I don't feel like blowing another $3K on collecting all of those. For many many years I never owned any models. I said one day I will start a 1:18 Ferrari model collection. Ya see, when I start....................I don't stop!! I just can't help myself. The only reason I actually started collecting them is because of the 20 listed on Ebay originally. I bid $500 and won the auction. As soon as they arrived, my addiction began and at some point I was buying 3-4 a day off Ebay from ALL over the world. So it will never end for me now, as soon as a new Ferrari road car comes out I will buy it. Mine are all stacked in boxes in the spare bedroom, I don't have anywhere to display them yet. **Around the same time I also went mad and bought every Tamiya Ferrari 1:10 r/c electric car made. There are also collecting dust in my spare bedroom. The Tamiya 288 GTO is 1:12 scale. I think I have 6 or 7 of them. ** Here is the last pic of I took of them before I started to box them up. There are 26 in that pic, have over 60 now total. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mate, I hear you! It is an addiction and it's hard to stop. If I had more cash I would be hot on your tail! There are some very cool models out there now and eBay has plenty to offer. I'm just about to buy this years F1 cars in 1/43 & 1/18. I even managed to score an original Matchbox 308 GTB with box for $20. The last one went for $145!
This years F1 cars would be cool. But I just CAN'T convince myself to go out and buy every 1/18 Ferrari F1 car. I would never stop and I don't have the room to display my current 1/18 Ferrari collection. The original 308 GTB sounds cool. I will keep an eye out for one in the future on Ebay as it could be a potential "good buy". $20, sell for $100. I just came across a 1/10 Tamiya Ferrari 599XX r/c car last night. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/58506-TAMIYA-TA06-FERRARI-599XX-/360410645453?pt=Radio_Control_Vehicles&hash=item53ea2603cd I think I might just have to buy it to add it to the Ferrari r/c car collection.
Had a look at the RC 599XX Pap and I say go for it! Tamiya have always made quality models. I'm sure it will make a nice Christmas present from Santa!
Cheers mate, will do. It will look great collecting dust in the corner with the other 5 r/c cars. Image Unavailable, Please Login
There are three of them not two. I'm certain that Art would let them use 001. 001 has been in MANY video games. I agree with you regarding the 16M, I would also really to see a decent 355 made by Mattel.
The 355 is coming next year from Mattel for sure (if there is such a thing in the diecast industry) As far as I know the third F50GT is in parts or non operational. The point here is that there are sooooo many Ferraris that need to be made that are going to bring a lot more and faster than the F50GT. Just like with everything and everyone else, there can not be a dozen models made by Mattel at the same time. So it comes to priorities. So far they are doing an incredible job filling in for the missing links in the V8 family tree for example. The only thing missing is the 308GT4 and it should be out any moment now. But let's see what would make more sense? A 275 GTB, which they can make in three different colors in Elite, Release one SuperElite, one in their celebrity collection, modify on to be roofless in the rare Ferraris collection and then like three more in racing trim. Or one F50GT which came in one and only way and color? And the 275 is a monumental model, where the F50 GT as much as I love it was pretty much a fluke. Then what we all forget is, that Ferrari themselves probably have a good say about what gets made and what not. I love the F50 GT, but I would love to see any Ferrari with a V12 and chrome on it before the F50GT.
Just bought a dark blue 250SWB off eBay along with this years F1 car. I hope Hotwheels continue to improve their collection of road cars in both 1/18 and 1/43 scales!
Actually in some ways it is better than MR and definitely a lot cheaper. However it is still not available. But when it is it will sell very well I am sure. I am getting one for sure. Or more...
I will buy it when it's available for sure. Just to keep adding to my red Ferrari 1:18 "road car collection".
Here you go Pap. They arrived yesterday well packaged. Very happy with the purchase especially the 250SWB. The photos don't do it justice though! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Nice! I like the FF in blue, quite striking. I remember the 456GT in a similar colour and looked awesome.
