I think it's interesting, the differences between dealers. I won't mention names of dealers that have bad reputations, only those that have good ones.

At Roger Beasley Porsche in Austin, They'd give us a Cayenne S (always <5000 miles) when our Turbo went in for service.
At ________________ dealer in ____, they currently give us an old Pontiac GRAND AM when our car is in for service.
    GRAND AM.
How do you pay $101,000 for a car and get a Grand Am? Not even a brand new Grand Prix, this is an old Grand Am. It had crank windows!

BMW claims that they give you a car of equal value to whatever you bring in. If this is true, that sounds great.

I'm curious what others get as loaners? Or do you get a loaner?

For me atleast, Dealers play a bigger role than most think.

Infact, _____ Jaguar in ____ would've had our business of a Super V8 Portfolio if they weren't so incompetant and rude. Instead, Roger Beasley got our business.
Does Dealer treatment matter to you that much?

depends on the car i guess, and ofcourse the dealer. Audi absoluty F-ing blows. they have no loaner program in place it's up to the dealer. everytime i take in my A8 they do not have a loaner, even though the appointment has been on the books for months. even when it needs to go in for 'unexpected' issues, none eithier. when i bought the car they said they had a program in place for A8's, so far i've had to pay for rentals. lately i've given up and taken a cab home a driven one of my other cars.
BMW has always been great about loaners, i have had; Z4's, 540i's, various 3series a 740i once and my fav was the 540i estate i had for 3months. maybe thats to offsett the fact there cars are always breaking down.
Mercedes in Newport was good with loaners also, however the car was only in for std. service so i don't have alot of experience with them.
my favorite was Landrover, as they would come pick up the vehicle by flat bed and leave you with a loaner. too bad they fell apart as you went down the road, you could almost hear the money burning.

The Mercedes dealer in our area has given us a C320, a crude little car with many build quality issues.

Our Cadillac dealer recently gave us the Buick Lucerne as a loaner. I liked it better than the C-class Benz, but I would never want one. It feels underpowered, the steering is numb and the styling just doesn't work.

I think it depends on who owns the dealership. At Porsche we always get a Cayanne. At Jaguar we always get a X-type, big step down from the XJR. One time they tried to give my wife a Ford Focus when she dropped off the XJR, she refused and they gave her the managers XJ8 he was driving. My dad bought a Volvo and used to get a Volvo when he took his car in, but a different dealer bought the dealership and now he gets to wait in their waiting room.

I was given a Chevy Malibu when the ML was in the shop. I just don't get GM. I am now completely convinced they designers and the brass that approve the design are chronic crack heads. How else could you explain some of the things they are making. I think GM should drop all passenger cars and make trucks and SUVs only.

In my city you get the following.............

    MB dealer......ML350 or C320
PORSCHE......V6 Cayenne or Tiptronic 911 coupe
    BMW............3 series sedan

Each dealer has a very limited number of cars to fulfill the requirements of this "manufacturer mandated program" and obviously usage is by appointment only. No brand loaners available ?.......they'll use BUDGET RENT A CAR and pay for it......it's but a phone call away.

The three times I had to use my BMW dealership gave me:

1 - Dodge Neon (absolutely horrible car)
2 - Chrysler Pacifica (wasn't bad for what I used it for)
    3 - 325i Sedan (nice little car)

The BMW dealership by my house used to give me great loaners, usually worth more than my own car. Unfortunately, they changed management a couple years ago, and stuck me with a nasty used up rental from some place down the street last time I needed a car. Their service department generally went down the tubes as well though, so I don't even use them for simple maintenance anymore.

At the Lexus dealer, I get either an ES, an RX or a Toyota of some sort. Really not bad cars. Acura either doesn't have any or offers Enterprise Rent-a-car (actually driving one today, a fairly new Pontiac)

I noticed you asked about loaners in a NON Ferrari thread. Those cokcsuckers don't do loaners!!!!

My Aston dealer picks up and delivers my Vanquish on his nickel, and has also picked up and dropped off my Ferarri for it's service, also on his nickel. I appreciate this and have allowed him the use my spider on these occasions.

My MB has given me the C class once or twice.

I get the a similar rental from my GM dealer. The eye opener was that one unlucky day I ended up in a Malibu--much to my surprise--sans ABS. I didn't think anyone made cars without ABS these days.

It was fun hitting the brakes hard in the middle of a rainy 120 kph turn, avoiding a certain Toronto-stereotype driver.

Thankfully for her, I got da:

They don't give loaners to 21 year olds. HA.

Although the courtsey shuttle drops me off and can pick me up to get the car back.

i'm 21 and every time i go to the mb dealer i get a c class, which never has more the 5,000 miles on it, and its always black for some reason. loaner cars are a big part of the ownership experience/Dealer relation from what i have heard

When I had my Audi I always got nice loaner cars. I would get an Audi A4 or a decent VW to drive. I usually got my salesman's loaner car. I have a Subaru now I haven't been back to the dealer once. I am confident they don't offer loaner cars.

When I bring my Acura is in for warrenty work, I get an Acura TSX, but when I got in a hit and run, I had to go to Enterprise. They gave me an awful Neon which I proceeded to thrash. Believe it or not, you can catch air in a Neon.

Bleh, next time I go in for major service I'm asking for a loaner.

Do you think how much you are paying for the dealer to do work is related to what kind of, if any, loaner car you get ??

    Ferrari dealer gives a Maserati

Mercedes gives ML 500, new ML350, or E320

    BMW gives 5 series

    Porsche gives Cayenne V6

Rolls gives depending on the dealer. Some give a Bentley, some give another Rolls, some just pick up the car.

I took my 04 SL600 and once got a little four banger japanese thing. I took my 03 Range Rover in ~2 years ago and got a Rio. That was only once though with the Rover, mostly they give me a Disco/LR3.

This is what usually we get:

Lexus: when we had the RX, usually another RX or a GS, but never a IS or a ES. One time, when it was in for a long service, the dealer picked up the car, left a LS430 with 1k miles on it (all the gizmos! it even had massaging seats in the back!) and they came and dropped the car off, in two days. The LS was awesome though.

Acura: In Maine, we don't have an Acura dealer, so when we set-up a time for service, they meet us at the local Honda Dealer, and they drive the car down to New Hampshire, but when they meet us, they usually give us an RL or an MDX, when we give our MDX in for service, but we got rid of the MDX too.

Mercedes: Had an ML320, and when we got there, the 1st time, they gave us an Kia, and we argued and then got an SLK for that day, to shut us up :). But ever that, they started offering us the choice between, A C230, ML350, and an E320, but the ML is gone though

Toyota: Usually given a Avalon, or Highlander. Once was given a Camry, and on one really rare instance, they gave us the Manager's land cruiser for the day, and once they gave us a Sienna, which was terrible. If there are no cars left, a shuttle (sienna) drops us off, and picks us up.

Volvo: when we had an S60, they usually gave us an S80 or something of equal value.

BMW: when my dad had an X5, they usually gave him another X5, or a 5 series, or even a X3, but when they had ran out of loaners, they once gave us the manager's 7 series.

LOL, been there done that! The last rental I had was a Neon - the brakes were pumped so tight that if you thought about braking the car hurled sideways! ;D
