What is with my neighbors??

Sounds like you have nosey, jealous neighbors. You can try the talking route but I think that they have a preconceived notion that all those in Porsches (or other preformance cars) speed and endanger others. You could try trading the ole' Porsche in on a lightly used Volvo wagon.

 

If you are not speeding, it may be that you just have some incredibly uptight neighbors. Is it possible that you have friends come visit in sports cars that drive too fast?
The stuff about getting anonymous letters is troublesome, to me...strange.
Have you ever talked to the neighbors to see what their issues are?

Maybe you just 'look fast' in the Porsche and Jag!

 

I once got a nastygram from an anonymous neighbor that my 360 was too loud after I started it at 5:30 AM to drive to Sears Point for a day of karting. Apparently I rattled a few windows and nerves as I idled my way through the neighborhood.

 

It's because the cars are louder than their minivans. I get the same crap from my neighbors. Stop and talk to them next time. Works well for me.

 

I have two neighbors that have done this to me in the past. One stepped into the street to try and stop me himself once, after he realized he was about to get run over he moved.

I ignore them. They can not do anything.

It amazes me how these people with no speed measuring device want to tell me how fast I am driving and the numbers they pull out of the air are ridiculous. And like the original poster I was driving under the speed limit when something was said.

 

Just a bunch of jealous AHOLES. I've read other threads similiar to your story.

Most of my neighbors appreciate nice cars and like mine. They can have a ride anytime. What you need is an fchat party with some lambos and fcars with tubi's.

 

I've got some really lame neighbors... though a few are ok. Mostly I just get nasty looks when I drive by, but I have had the police called on me a few times for no apparent reason.

 

Anybody got any good suggestions for getting a neighbor to control their barking dog? I think dogs are great, but this thing is an idiot. I'll be outside working for two hours and the thing won't shutup.

 

Sounds like class envy; but then again, you all probably live in a well-to-do neighborhood.
I'd break the ice by offering them rides. I sure wouldn't turn down rides in a Porsche or Jag!!

Tell the next nosey neighbor: "Somebody put a note in my mailbox complaining about my car. I'm turning the notes over to the local postmaster and they're tracking down the culprit for violating federal postal laws by putting unstamped mail in my mailbox."

 

My thinking also give them a ride show them the noise it makes at 22pmh and they will be apolgize for being a jurk to you. My neighbors the same way so when hes outside we floor it and it pisses him off but its always good for a laugh.

 

Whenever i'm in one of our high end sports cars (Ferrari/Porsche/BMW/Jag) i'll always get nasty looks or comments to slow down no matter what speed i'm driving. Never get the same treatment when i'm in a lesser car. I think people see a sports car and automatically expect it to be driving fast since that's what they do. Driving up my street about 30mph in 2nd gear (3500+- rpm in a carb car = loud) I passed a lady pushing a stroller, few minutes later she made it to my house and started walking up the drive to lecture me about speeding. I had started to wash the car, had my German Shepherd out in the yard with me and I told her "He doesn't like strangers and is very territorial, please get off my property". Needless to say she hightailed it out pretty quick and didn't say another word.

However, I think the neighbors do have a ligitment complaint when the 308 sets off car alarms on the street at 1am. hey, I can't help it.

i used to have a civic with a swapped motor, header,HKS exhaust,etc. teh car was pretty loud, but not raspy and ricey. it had a really nice sond to it. i was always careful to keep it quiet around cops and neighborhoods, especially after dark. one day as i was headed over to a friend's house, some jackass walked out in the middle of the street and stood there forcing me to stop. he screamed about how i drove fast and i could kill kids, blah blah blah. i started to tell him i was under 25 mph (posted limit) and the car "sounds" faster than it is really going. he cut me off, reached in the car and grabbed my seat belt and asked if i wanted to discuss it outside the car. i told him by touching me he was asaulting a minor (i was 17)and i wasn't speeding. when i said that he backed up enough for me to drive off as he screamed in the middle of the road. from that day on whenever i drove by his house i kept it in 2nd gear at 25mph. 1.8 liters screamed at about 4,5-5000 rpm anounced my entry to the neighborhood every single time i drove by is house. as soon as i was by i shifted to 3rd and cruised on.

this would not be the best way to handle it in your case, but i didn't really care because i didn't live in the neighborhood, and i was a stupid high schooler. maybe stopping and talking with them is your best bet. or put an exhaust on the porsche and really piss them off!!!!!!

 

my neighbor called the cops and fire department on me for setting off fireworks.. I was 13 and it scared the living crap outta me having a fire man and a cop yelling at me... I hate those neighbors now...

 

I have the same problem with a tubi on the Maserati and this topic really irritates me.

They hear me coming around a curve and are standing there with hands on hips pissed off. Some lady screamed slow down right as I passed, another casually turned from her suv that she was loading and yelled it. Didnt even look to see if I was going fast. I usually dont speed in my neighborhood because its in a canyon and around any turn, someone could be pulling out of a driveway. However, that is the only reason i dont speed. If it were a matter of respect for my neighbors, I have none. Too many years (10+) picking up dog **** off my lawn, vandalism by neighbors to deterents to keep dogs off the lawn, too many times walking by neighbors saying hello and no response.

Personally, I am going to stop next time, long enough and tell whomever it is, "you know, I was doing 20 mph"

 

When i was learning to drive manual on the Spitfire this past summer, i would drive it round the block about once a day to get the hang of it. Some of our neighbours are being real annoying about speeding and want to get speed bumps put in (the idea was eventually turned down) and they would be put right outside our house. Well, i was driving and i i know how picky these people are and i drove by a house and a lady outside yelled at me to slow down...23 in a 25. So, i kept on going, this time 20mph and she said it again, i immediatley yelled back "I'M GOING 20!". Her husband had come out by then and i decided to pack it in.

She later appologised to my mum saying that i wasn't speeding


Moral = Either deal with it or do something about it, some people are just dicks

Btw, i'm pretty sure its illegal to put in "unauthorized" mail in someones mailbox

So i'm burbling down the street in 3rd gear trying to keep it quiet, It's obviously an after market alarm that's very sensitive since the car wasn't even that loud. Not much I can do.

Sounds rather arrogant to me. You should of filled us in on the facts before. IMO that comment was just waiting for people to critize it
