I saw this pic on another forum and really liked it. Is the car around anymore? What does a simmilar GT40 that did not win Le Mans sell for? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm pretty sure genuine production models are pretty high. As far as I know, some of the racing cars have gone for millions. 1 I can recall was the GT40 (Chassis GT-102) who won the 1965 Daytona 24 Hours recently sold for $2.5 million.
i know a guy with a real one...its the limited run of the street going version and he put the gurney motor in it...people tell him well over 1 mil.
I could swear that the preproduction model (the first one made) went at an auction recently. Regularly I think the price is between 2 and 3 million for one that has a good track record. The Road versions are much much cheaper. Peter Hatch
Yes, it is exactly the same as a GT40 MkII meaning it has the bigger scoops on the quarter panels. Other than that it is identical to the GT40 MKI seen above. All the parts were even made from molds taken of an original. Peter Hatch
Superformance make the MkI and the MKIV versions. They are not exactly the same as the originals but they claim 90 percent of the parts are interchangeable. They have upgraded the materials in some components, they come airconditioned, and they are much better made than the originals ever were. They are also lighter and have more hp than the originals.
The particular car pictured in Gulf colours competed in and won Le Mans in 1968, it was run by a British team JWA, it also won in 69 driven by Jacky Ickx. The car is legendary in racing circles and I cannot imagine what it would be worth. The last original GT40 I heard of that was road registered new(cost in 1968 from Ford was £7000 sterling) was sold for over half a million sterling in the late 90s Steve
I will take some at the shop tomorrow as we have a red Mk4 with an all aluminum big block Ford along with a yellow and another red one being assembled. There are only seven originals (our moulds were taken from one of them too) ever completed so having three aluminum chassised replicas in the shop at one time is kind of cool.... There are pics on the race car replicas forum on www.GT40'S.com forum under MkIV
fran, have you had an opportunity to see the mk IV being built by kenny thompson in denver, nc? i know of kenny through my friendship w/ lee holman...his mk IV is incredibly accurate! expensive but it could be worth it due to the build pedigree. looking forward to your e-mail fran!! best, pcb
7? I count 6: J3/J4/J5/J6/J7/J8. IMO the double Le Mans winning 1075 would sell for 10 Million US at least.
Sorry to hijack here but Peter, I have sent you a few pms over last few weeks, have you received them? Steve
Watch it in action here in "Les Vingt-quatre Heures du Mans". It covers the 69 race. All four parts are available and worth watching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=861mRRktGZA
sorry steve...asking price is a bit too steep!! i'm sorry i have not responded prior. as always, thank you for your insight steve!!! best, pcb
I agree with you Jim. I cannot find anything about 7 originals being produced. And I know you have one of the originals and know you have done tons of research on this.........
I was actually counting the J cars as well........and my quantities were off as there were in fact 12 chassis built...two were unfinished chassis and there were a couple of the earlier ones were breadvan Jcars...
Found it, here is the direct link: http://www.gt40s.com/forum/rcr-forum-rcr40-rcr70-p4-mkiv/21854-mkiv.html Looks like a real beast with that all aluminum 427
