Looking to upgrade to a 488 that has alcantara seat inserts. Just a little worried about wear marks on the seats.

How do the alcantara seats hold up with time/seat miles?

I had it in Porsche’s that I put a lot more miles on and no real issues. My steering wheel showed some flattening of alcantera due to gloves on track events but a tooth brush and cleaning it looked like new again

  4. Depends on what type of pants (or shorts) you wear. Or skirt, I suppose.

How much you weigh and how lithe and limber you are getting in/out of the car.

Jeans mostly, avg weight. I just think of suede when i see it & think of how quick it looks worn. Guess this is not the case for alcantara.

    Thanks for the replies.

Thinking of trading in my 458. Love the car, just thinking of something a little newer.

Alcantara is great at holding particles, skin, sand, dirt, food, etc. Liquids that evaporate and leave a residue like soda, makeup can also leave stains that can be difficult to remove.

The base material is fairly robust but you can "polish" off the texture with frequent contact like steering wheels, seat bolsters and anywhere the seat belt contacts.

I prefer leather/pu bolsters and edges with alcantara center panels, basically keeping the high friction areas in a smoother material. Steering wheels coverings are basically disposable, the will polish with gloves and hold sweat/skin without gloves, it's just a matter of time/use.

Over all alcantara is great, the texture is perfect for steering wheels, and seat covering real locks you in, but it does degrade over time

Thanks, still not sure if i should wait to find one without alcantara interior.

Every car i have owned I just went with black leather.... Its so forgiving on wear & stains

For the amount Ferrari’s get used on this forum ya’ll shouldn’t worry about Alcanterra durability;-)

I have alcantara seat inserts in my 458. 34K miles and zero issues, no wear as far as I can tell. As others have said, they are grippier than leather, I prefer them to full leather upholstery.

I generally choose leather over full alcantara because it is easier to clean. However, I have owned several cars with alcantara seats and never had a problem with it.

My car has the alcantara racing seats with leather side bolsters. I bought the car with 4,000 miles and they looked perfect. I now have 12,500 miles and they still look perfect.
I'm 6'1" 186lbs, and careful with how I get in and out of the car.

Sticky button problems will overshadow anything you notice wrong with the alcantera....so there’s that!

Alcantara is totally fine for a weekend car that you do not eat or drink in. The only issue with alcantara is if you spill something on the seat spot cleaning is difficult. A professional can do it though.

However, my 458 has tan alcantara armrests on the doors and alcantara roof liner. Looks really nice. When the car goes to the Ferrari dealer they get grease on the alcantara part of the door. My detailer gets it off with no issues.
