I think I read its about 61-65 in second and 82-85 in 3rd. I just watched a you tube clip and although it was hard to tell, the speedo read about these speeds just about at redline.

According to R&T magazine, 1st is good for 50MPH (@8500) while 2nd is to 75 and 3rd is to 101. They list actual gear ratios, so seems credible.

Your numbers are a bit high. The numbers posted by Gmast are more accurate. At least that is my experience.

I'll tell you tomorrow after I take it out. Gives me an excuse to hit the red part of the tach and give some good info to the FChat community ;)

according to a 2005 test by Motor trend, first gear is good to 47 mph, second gear to 72 mph, third gear to 96 mph and fourth gear to 122 mph.

    Wow. Numbers all over. Here's what R&T says about a 2006 F430 F1:
    1st 3.29:1 50MPH
    2nd 2.16:1 75MPH
    3rd 1.61:1 101MPH
    4th 1.27:1 128MPH
    5th 1.03:1 158MPH
    6th 0.82:1 198MPH
All above at 8500 RPM with a final drive ratio of 4.30:1.

IIRC, I've seen the gear ratios fairly consistently listed, but the final drive ratio is rarely listed. In the actual acceleration chart, the first two shifts were at 50MPH and 75MPH, respectively. I wonder if there are different final drive ratios in non-F1 or in different regions or different years? I also wonder if there are different shift points depending on the manettino setting. I would further expect indicated speed to be greater than actual due to optimistic speedometers vs. actual speed via GPS, but people are saying the opposite :-(

FYI, in the car above 0-60 was 3.5s while 1/4 mi was 11.7s @ 120.1MPH.

There have been a couple of threads which compared indicated to actual speed. I think most have reported that indicated is higher. On my 430 indicated is quite a bit higher, at higher speeds, the diff is approx 5-7%.

0-60 in 3.5 secs in a non-scuderia version of the 430 is optimistic. I wonder if Ferrari gives specially prepared cars for testing purposes.

    R&T Test Notes (FWIW):
"Acceleration runs with Launch Control are simple: Switch the manettino to "CST off," hold the brake and throttle, release the brake as revs reach about 3800 and a perfect launch results."

Probably also results in a perfect clutch thrashing...

    A couple of points.

From what I understand, launch control is not available as an option on North American delivered cars, so again, it is possible that Ferrari hands specially prepared cars to organizations that do tests. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if there is a European version of R&T?

For 430's that were equipped with LC, those that used it went through clutches quickly.

Due to the insane amount of police tonight I only got to redline in second gear. It was well over what I had read (61-65) I couldn't glance down for more than 2 seconds but it was ~75. maybe more. I don't know whether or not the angle I sit and view the speedo would be different than head on, but it was undoubtedly more than the most of the numbers I and others posted. Next time I will mount the Go Pro or have a passenger record the speedo.

Just thinking about it after the fact, second must pull to at least 70-75 because it is probably the most powerful gear in terms of pushing you back in your seat and it seems that the mid sixties wouldnt be fast enough. I will report back with my own numbers.

This isn't me but it shows 70 on the nose.

On my 360 3rd is good for about 100. Maybe the calculated 101 is correct but I never tried to get it down to 1 MPH. 2nd is good to about 80 indicated.

    Well said.

My CS speedo is so far off of reality (when checked by GPS). So do you expect/want actual speed or just "indicated"?
