When i went to the Queen's English car show in Woodly Park Van Nuys April 23rd I saw two TVRs one very svelte targa something like a cross between a Viper and E-type. It was RHD abd had briissh plates. How do you bring sich a car into the US? On a "tourist visa" type of thing where you promise to remove it from tthe US by certain datte? It was accompanied by a less dramatic TVR. Are here any other exciting British sports cars non conforming to US law that are being self imported?

I found this tidbit: "Canadians who do not have a residence in the U.S may take a vehicle to the U.S., duty-free, for personal use for up to one year."
I'm sure there's a similar rule for temporarily bringing any car into another country, as long the car is registered and insured and it leaves the country within a reasonable period.

A car can reside in the United States up to one year with doing any modifications or special plating as long as you have proper insurance and current registration in the country it came from

Sounds like they were TVR Cerberas. They are appearing on our shores now, hitting their 25 year mark. All (nearly) RHD cars and brutally raw sports cars. On my bucket list too. One for auction presently on BaT as well.

There is a treaty on international road traffic that several hundred countries are signatories to. Canada and the USA are two. It is how Canadians drive their cars in the States. The US also has a 25-year or older import rule, they no longer need to meet emissions or crash standards to be imported. Canada is 15 years or older.
