I seem to wake up with neck pain or get neck pain after a day of work (Sitting by the computer). I am doing some exercise for my upper back but i wonder if there is anything i can do to strengthen my neck (Without looking like a body builder) as there are days i feel my neck weak.

Look into a better pillow, maybe a temper pedic one will support your head better than the one you may have now.

How do you sit when you are at your computer, lift your chair and sit straight up and that will help support your back which should make your neck comfortable as well.

Strengthening the neck doesn't mean it will look like a body builder, unless you do it an hour + every few days.

2x per week, roll on your forehead (stomach down) for 60 seconds and do the same with your stomach up (bridged with your hands extended away from your face.)

Stuff like this. It's very easy, effective, and doesn't take much time.

Look into a new mattress. I got a select comfort mattress last year and my neck pain is virtually nonexistent now.

Before embarking on any exercises, esp for the neck, you should see a Muscle Activation Techniques Therapist in Chicago. In all seriousness, with regard to the neck, don't mess around.

    Today is your lucky day
I can cure you neck problems for life
My chiro showed me this little trick
About 8 years ago and cured my neck problem completely
It really is not your neck
Its really knots in the upper shoulder neck region
Knots are those bumps of stress and daily misformation
    Try this
In the shower every morning grab your wist withother hand
Behind your back and arch your shoulder blades backwards
This squeezes the fluid in the knots out
Hold that position tight for 30 seconds
Do three reps at least twice a day
    Morn and eve
It will cure within 3 days
Cant tell you how many people i have goven this to with success

Yoga helps my neck. I also do a machine in the gym with my trainer that has a thing in the back that you push your head against and move your head front to back. It feels really good when it comes down because it stretches it, and then when I push it back up I can hear my neck popping. I love that machine!

Neck can have multiple causes. Before a treatment plan is started you need to have a diagnosis of what is the etiology of the pain. I would an MD specializing in rehab and pain management to help with the diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Or you can just listen to the random advise of people from an exotic car web site.

Definitely go to a chiropractor first. You will be amazed what a good one will find.

Not really. It's overkill. Most common ailments are just that...common. No need to go the whole hog and waste time, money and energy on specialists, when a few basic exercises do the trick. If it doesn't help, or if it's serious (and most people can tell), by all means, go see a doc, but it shouldn't be your first step for minor aches and pains.

I was in a bad accident (t-boned - drunk b!tch on the left and a stop sign runner on the right) and suffered hyperflexion of the neck. The orthopedic doc immediately wanted to preform cervical fusion, which I gladly declined and opted for physical therapy instead.

As part of the therapy, the PT introduced me to isometric neck exercises. Now, after only 10 visits and 4.5 years later I have full-range motion of my head and neck with no pain at all.

Simple and easy, you can do it almost anywhere.

Havent checked in here in a while...

Both hands behind back right hand grabs left wrist...Now flex upper most part of your shoulders back way back as to squeeze your shouder blades together in the center of your back...This pinches and drains the Knots in you upper back and neck..
Do three sets ...15 seconds each..as often as you can.shower time works best.
I have been doing it for over 10 years now...and turned others onto it...not one unsucessful case..

Neck is the most and sensitive part of our body. all the veins and arteries transfer to the brains form the neck.
as all the body need relax, then the neck also need relax from the tiredness.
you have to do exercise after the conversation of your doctor.
obey his all the advises. i hope it is better for you and for your health.

Some simple neck stretches may be all you need. Sometimes I start a yoga class with these neck and even eye exercises, as they are very neglected parts of the body when it comes to exercise and stretching.

Sitting upright with legs crossed, move your head in the following directions.

    - Ear to shoulder, keeping shoulders down. Both sides. Repeat 3-5 each side.
    - Chin to chest, then look up. Repeat 3-5 times.
    - Chin to each shoulder. Look over the right then left. Repeat 3-5 each side.
    - Clockwise and counter clockwise head circles. 3 each direction.

Do these slowly and with meaning. You will hear cricks and cracks but this should not hurt.
