    For what it's worth...

It's not about you; it's about your wife and what she wants. Nothing wrong with Subarus - dependable, great engineering and have all the creature comforts. And to be frank most SUVs look so similar that I have to look twice to see the brand. Not worth paying the extra $$$ for a brand name when a Subaru is safe, well made and very reliable.

My wife could not care less if we had a F-car, Lambo or anything else in the garage - she loves her Subaru (and admittedly, so do I).

Dean: In agreement with vr300zx here... get a Subie. If that's what she likes, then that's great. They are the only game in town in Southern New England winters, when ice and freezing rain become a problem. Mine was ridiculously good with studded snows in all four corners.

My wife after wanting and driving a SUV, realized a minivan is much easier with kids. Sienna AWD. Exciting....nope. Better on gas, push button doors, reliable, holds 7.

She drives the Abarth for fun once in a while.

My wife is on her 5th Lexus in 18 years. 4 ES and now an LS. None have ever had to be in the shop for a repair. Scheduled maintenances only. That's a lot better than any of the Mercedes and Ferraris I've had........

Buy your wife a Ferrari FF.
Has four wheel drive and enough room for all the bags.

    Funny!
My wife is currently driving a RR Autobiography LWB (our boys are over 6'5") and asked for FF when both are in college (one to go, next year).
She even specified the color : Nero D with Nero interior with Rosso stitching and calipers.

As far as brand image Subaru has moved up quite a bit, let her get one! They are very safe, reliable and great in the winter...and don't cost an arm and a leg to maintain.

Our family truckster is a Kia Sorrento, fully loaded. Awesome car, but Kia still has image issues...so the wife said she'll drive it more if I debadge it. I'm thinking of wrapping the KIA emblem with carbon fiber, keep people in traffic guessing.

Wait a minute....if Subarus are the only game in town for southern New England winters, what's the best choice for northern New England winters? :)

My wife and I went car shopping. Her criteria is a 4 door sedan with all wheel drive. She has been driving an Audi for a decade and doesn't want another one. She previously owned three Subaru's because they were one of the few AWD cars available. Our first stop was a Subaru dealer where she drove a Legacy. She liked the way it drove but wasn't very excited about its appearance. Next stop Acura. She wasn't able to see well out the rear window because of the high trunk. The backup camera didn't change her mind; no sale. We walked around a Volvo dealer for a while without anyone helping us. When it became apparent they had little interest in us we developed a disinterest in them and left. The Lexus was so unappealing my wife wouldn't even sit in one. She liked the Infinity and her test drive was satisfactory; a definite maybe. BMW was a, "No I don't like them". Mecedes Benz has redesigned the C Class. The new cars nav controls are on the center console between the seats. My wife has to move the seat so far forward that she can't use it. Drove a 2014 C Class and really liked it. Nav control is on the dash and she is excited about the cars styling. So the target is now a 2012 to 2014 Mecedes Benz C Class.

The Acura designs did have a higher rear trunk and window. The Lexus grills were so large and obnoxious that my wife couldn't get pass them.

This is what I just got for my wife, Fiat 500L - a bit quirky like her, not all wheel drive, 1.4L turbo with a dual clutch trans, she loves it. Fiat is coming out with the 500X a very good looking 4x4 shared platform with the new Jeep Renegade ( too be made in Europe)
