Literally, in Italian, it means "crazy people", or if you prefer, "fanatics." "Tifosi" is the plural of "tifoso," so any one person is a tifoso, a group of crazy people are tifosi. The word has come to be applied to Ferrari fans: as a group they are tifosi, as individuals each is a tifoso.

My Italian is almost non-existent, but that much I am pretty confident about.

For the record i am a Vol fanatic, hence the screen name :)

I think he/she means what does Tifosi literally mean, the denotation.

I'd like to know myself. Calling all Tifosi, calling all Tifosi!

I always heard 'Tifoso' came to mean a 'crazed' person like one got with typhoid fever. The old definition of tifoso meant someone with typhoid fever.
The word gradually lost the original meaning as it was used in the vernacular to mean a crazed person and grew into the meaning we know today.

Ferraristi, is it Ferraristo in plural?
As it seems tifoso is singular and tifosi is plural!

Zane, the i is plural, o is singular.

Tifoso actually means something like "typhoid suffering", or loosely translated "crazy sick".

Seriously, wtf was that all about? I was at the game and ended up leaving because I couldn't sit there and watch that BS.

Anyway, I hadn't known what Tifosi meant either and I'm glad someone asked.

Don't know if you are a tiger fan or some other SEC fan, but the Vols were not lucky. They were just a little better than the LSU TEAM the other night. Tough loss though. I was curious as to how LSU could be ranked #3 with one game that required a 28 point fourth quarter to win at ASU. Anyway, I am not a Tifosi, but consider myself a Ferraristi, and definitely a Cane.

Bo Pelini will not be at LSU long after his wonderful defensive coaching abilities he has shown. If you look at some of the blowouts this guy has coached at NU, OU, and now LSU, you wonder how the heck this classless jerk is still in the mix??

    Anyway, sorry about the hijack.

    I am a Husker tifosi!!!

Here is a great example of tifosi. This shed is along coast hiway one, out in the boonies of south Mendocino county. Someday I'll stop and get the story.
