Different manufacturers different meanings, Anti Slip Regulation is one (Audi). Its a form of traction control, rather than a full ESP system (Electronic Stability Program). Usually adjusting throttle to help on loose surfaces / leaving junctions etc reducing wheel spin. ESP adds the ability to brake individual wheels to correct understeer and oversteer before it happens (or as its happens, depends on system thresholds as interpreted by a yaw sensor).

You can usually turn traction control off (ASR) as that helps in snow etc but ESP tends to be on all the time (in "normal cars" its switchable in Ferrari's using the Manetino).

These systems are usually based on Bosche hardware and each manufacturer names the elements with different titles to create the impression that their system is unique.

"Anti-Spin Regulation" Per article on the Ferrari of Houston website:

    http://www.ferrariofhouston.com/456GTA.htm

"The ASR (Anti-Spin Regulation) system is integrated into the four channel ABS(Anti-Lock Braking System). "

Google search is a great thing!! ;)

Ferrari's ASR, as implemented on the 360, also has the ability to apply the brakes to the rear wheels individually. This is in addition to its ability to cut power when skidding is detected.

If it can brake the driven wheels then thats "EDL" (Electronic Differential Lock) - but nothing to stop Ferrari labelling it all "ASR" or any other name. The feature list is usually (Bosch titles):

ABS - Antilock Braking System (ability to release brake pressure)
ASR - Anti Slip Regulation (traction control, using the throttle)
EDL - Electronic Diff Lock, able to apply brakes to driven wheels independantly
EBD - Elecronic Brake Distribution, auto brake bias front/rear
CBC - Corner Brake Control, auto brake bias side to side
ESP - Electronic Stability Program, able to brake individual wheels

    Benefits are:

ABS - Maintain steering control whilst emergency braking
ASR - Reduce wheel spin when pulling off or accelerating
EDL - Maximise driven wheel traction
EBD - Maximum braking efficiency, shorter stopping distances
CBC - Reduce chances of spinning if braking whilst turning
ESP - Correct or reduce chances of oversteer or understeer

    It´s a German acronym:

    Anti-Schlupf-Regelung

Direct translation would be anti skid system.

Here is what I have so far:

    Acceleration Slip Regulation

    Anti Slip Regulation

    Anti-Spin Regulation

    Anti-Schlupf-Regelung= anti skid system

I guess it was not such a stupid question after all...but maybe we should start a poll and see which one gets the most votes. Does anyone know how to do that?

    AR! is right.

Bosch invented these systems and hence the acronyms are German. But each importer creates their own names to match the German acronym but in their own language. That is why there are variations, personally I like MVP's best :)

As per the 360 manual, ASR = Anti Slip Regulation. No poll needed. End of story.

It's on page 5 of the manual at the very beginning under "Abbreviations".

PS. Mine is the Euro manual. It could be different for US spec cars.
