What do you like and what do you not like about the 488 Pista design (particularly compared to the 488 GTB)?

The rear end treatment is very well done. I particularly like the side vents in the bumper and deletion of the "mail slot" on the 488. The extreme plunge in the hood is the least appealing design element to me, but I'd still reserve judgment until seeing it in person. Fred

Every aspect of the 488 design has been improved upon. However the rear is where the design change has the most pleasing result. The 488 rear by comparison was too disjointed where the Pista makes a very cohesive statement with a strong balanced horizontal theme. The whole car looks more planted to the asphalt than before...

Love everything about it... However if I really had to nitpick, I would probably say I don't like the side winglets on the rear diffuser.

I love it all. I wish they offered center locking wheels. I suspect there is a very good reason why not, but I just don't know it. I think Ferrari has delivered a spectacular car.

Requires a specific very large torque wrench and very few shops have one. A mate with a 911 GTS had to truck the car some 100 miles when he got a flat tyre on a motorway at night.

If the goo doesn't work then it won't matter if you have center locks or not as there is no spare. Removing and refitting a center lock is no big deal if you have the right wrench. Few shops in the middle of nowhere stock the tires anyway...so the car is in for a joyride regardless.;)

You both make good points. But why should we let practicality get in the way? :)

With Ferrari, practicality went out the window a long time ago - so why hold back on the center-locks? :D

Love the Pista, but I wish ferrari would get rid of those exterior door handles.....they just look so out of place...a nice button on the key fob to pop open the doors would be awesome!

Love everything about the Pista design, they took what is already aggressive and elegant 488 design and made it even more aggressive. Seems like they even removed the bullet hole from 488, aka the key holes.

Only 2 things they could had improve is door handle and steering wheels, it should had used the updated Ferrari steering wheels like the ones for 812 Superfast and Portofino

This is how I imagine a motor mag would say it...

Pros: front and rear treatment ultra-aggressive without losing balance or beauty, improves on the already excellent 488 but Ferrari manages to make a more aggressive car that is simultaneously less angular and more voluptuous.

    Cons: erm...

    Verdict: Pinin-who?

I think the car looks like it’s smiling from the front end. I like the standard 488 front end better.

I think the Pista is a homerun in design using the already fantastic 488 GTB as the template. I'm surely in the minority here saying this but I think the 488 as a design concept was always vastly superior than the 458 and that goes for both the GTB vs Italia and Pista vs Speciale. I could never stand that catfish/mustache mouth of the Italia and the backend/taillights looked severely dated compared to it's contemporaries then and now.

The Speciale was even worse and you can even go back to the threads when it was first released and the very polarizing responses it got. Its grinning front, weird side winglet, large boxed area in the rear end/diffuser and front fender wheel arch vents we not things of beauty as the car was definitely a form follows function design. Undoubtedly one of the best if not best driving experiences but to call it beautiful or an awesome design it was not.

The GTB corrected many of those issues as does the Pista and while the latter still follows a form follows function philosophy, Flavio Manzoni and Centro Stile Ferrari really nailed it this time and the reaction by the enthusiast community and likewise general public is indicative of that. The reduction of the splitter and black outlining of the of side air intake has dramatically cleaned up the side profile. The ten spoke lightweight rims is a refreshing change from the usual five spoke star design and definitely highlights a more track oriented feel. And not sure I can add anymore to what has already been said but the rear is definitely the highlight of the Pista how the diffuser now stretches the full width of the car, the elegant and elongated fixed rear wing/spoiler, and the return of the classic black strip connecting the already gorgeous LED taillights.

The only knock to its design as said by many is the front top 3/4 view where you see the front bonnet dip sharply into the front fender/wing. It may look better in real life but does look a little of in that view.

I largely agree with you that viewing Pista's hood from a certain angle makes it look somewhat over dramatic, but maybe when looking at it in the flesh it will be fine. Time will tell there!

Also think Pista removing the glove box is unnecessarily introducing impracticality into the car. I can understand they want Pista to look harder core but it's now 2018. Things like that are a backward step when the competition is adding things like sat nav, front lift and the likes now as std equip. Just saying..

Your points on 458 are valid to a degree not discounting the fact it was a sensational looking car on the day and still holds up reasonably well. So long as it's kept parked away from today's cars like 488 etc it looks ok. It is hard not to notice when 458 and Speciale are in the company of 488 (and certain other cars of today's design) they garner very little attention from onlookers if any. To be expected I guess. Everyone knows what they are and how old they now are. Getting old sucks they say....

2015 is old? My Speciale actually holds its own against all new cars. Not sure where you are getting your data/experience but you are way off. The 488 is sitting in showrooms and car lots all over the US and really not selling and some people are spending more money on Speciale's rather than buying a cheaper and less desirable 488...that is a fact. 488s are not showing well in most shows I go to or attend/patriciate in as they are not a popular design and many enthusiasts and Ferrari owners are not thrilled with the non NA approach. Look in a 488 engine compartment and then look in a Speciale engine compartment...the 488 is a dull experience. I love all Ferraris but your statements above are just wrong...yes that is my opinion but is supported in many of the forums and shows.

Gee...didn't the Speciale get Evo Car of the Year in 2014...why yes it did...http://www.evo.co.uk/videos/14716/evo-car-of-the-year-2014-the-video
The 488 didn't even place the following year...

Oh well.... I guess I've been seeing things when the bulk of the general public walk past 458 speciales like they don't even exist and make a B line for the 488 when it's about.

Please tell me that's not my problem. I can't control public sentiment even if you don't see eye to eye with it. And I mean that with no offense to you or anyone with the 458 as I still like the car myself.
