Curious about what everyone is using for a digital these days. Seems like the larger size SLR Digitals are becoming popular again..

I have a Casio Exilim EX-Z1000. Its really nice especially for the price and its size. I'm looking for a bit more advanced camera though.

Olympus C8080........8.0 megs, video, does virtually everything under the sun and has the capability to interchange lenses like a regular SLR, etc. It's full size.....but I prefer that to the mini cameras which are out there.

I've had it for exactly 2 years now and couldn't be happier.....I really wanted the Nikon equivalent but it was 35% more expensive so I passed. 6 months later, piles of Nikons were sitting unsold on the shelves and they dropped the prices.

Sony Cybershot P93. Not a bad camera for what it is. I'd much rather have a model with a bigger/better lense, but this works great, and it's cheap enough that if I screw it up hiking, it's not a big deal.

Nikon D70s & D2Hs with a D200 to be added in the next few months. Lenses are mosty primes from a 10.5mm fisheye to the 300mm f2.8 AF-S I, but then again, this is a bit more than a hobby for me.

I read an interesting report recently that recommended waiting a few months if you're thinking about buying a digital camera. Last year Americans bought around 35 million digital cameras, and because there's no way sales can repeat, there should be a lot of price reductions later this year.

Personally, I wouldn't put much stock in that. Electronics have a finite shelf life and prices are always dropping. I don't see much crystal ball credibility in that prediction! :)

I recently bought a Canon Digital Rebel XTi with 28-135mm lens. After 30 years (!) with my old FTb blunderbuss, I'm still learning about the considerably greater number of options the new camera provides. So far, though, the "point-and-shoot" mode has been doing quite well! Now, all I have to do it to hook up my new computer so that I can upload my images.

    Mike-

Try checking out the 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6. It's my ultimate "walk-around" lens. You'd love it. Also, the 70-200mm f/2.8 has been magnificent, but I kinda bent over backwards shelling out the $ for it. It also dworfs my D200, so I tripod/monopod is very necessary because of all that weight. How has that 85mm been going? I might have to check one of those out!

    Keep up the good work

    -John

Nikon D50 + Nikkor 18-70 F3.5-4.5 DX lens and Nikkor 70-200 F2.8 lens. I think I will add a used D200 or D80 body in a year or two. Want the faster focussing and depth of field preview.

The 70-200 VR is one of the best Nikon teles ever made. As a less expensive alternative that's equally as sharp, look for the out of production 80-200mm f2.8 af-s.

Both the f1.4 and f1.8 versions of the 85mm are fantasic lenses. You can pick up a used f1.8 version for about 30% of what a new f1.4 is. If you don't need the extra stop its also a great alternative.

I bought a Canon Rebel XT with the 18-55 lens a couple of weeks ago. I bought the 70-300 lens this past week. I've had a few digital cameras before, but just the cheap ones because I have a lot of 35mm camera stuff that I use. I finally bought a good digital camera and love it. I really wish I could have used the lenses from my old cameras.

Nikon D70. 50mm 1.8, 70-200 2.8 VR, and the kit lens. And an SB-800. Looking into the D80 and the D200. If anyone has any recommendations, feel free to PM me. :)
