Veg Thali from a new to me place.
Very good. I was the only outsider picking up, which is always a good sign!

Explain In and Out to me Tom. One opened up nearby and I'm definitely going. What's the difference between a regular double double and double double animal style? Anything else I should know?

Talk to AzIt. He's the man when it comes to I&O. We used to go every time we visited Cali. Novelty wore off once they opened a bunch here in DFW. IMO, the burgers are good, better than most. Not as good as Whataburger, but that could be the Texan in me talking!

Animal style is different from the regular cheeseburger in these ways:

    1) the patties are cooked in mustard on the grill (you wouldn't know this from the taste, but they say its so)
    2) Pickles
    3) Extra sauce
    4) fried onions (and I generally didn't like onions of any kind on my burgers until I had these, they are the real secret - finely chopped and cooked until carmelized)

Imho, a regular I&O burger is nothing special (solid, better than the big chains, but that's it).

A double double is necessary in order to get the correct ratio of cheese, meat, bread and other toppings. A single simply isn't as good.

Then animal style is necessary if you want to have any opinion on their burgers...

Thus a double-double animal style is the only burger on their menu that imho provides an above average taste experience.

I will say again what I always have said about In & Out; don't go unless you are going to order a double double animal style.

(Oh, and skip the fries. They "should" be good, but for whatever reasons they just never get them crispy, so I skip them. If you must, then get animal style fries.)

Stuck at home awaiting a wine delivery...this is literally all we had in the fridge other than yogurt and berries (which I had for breakfast).

I'll put it on saltines. And I've learned over the years that I'm not alone in this.

Went to an absurdly popular and crowded Indian place called Dishoom today. My nephew who lived in London gave me a gift cert there for Christmas. Great gift because this place has been on our list and this motivated us to get there finally. Very good food and cool setting. Had chicken, lamb, paneer, prawns, garlic naan and some indian-flavored corn (of all things):

I had a quarter pounder. Gotta admit, I kinda liked the taste better with the "fake" meat before they changed to "better quality" beef.. It was mcdonalds. lol

Not that fake meat. I'm talking about the meat McDonalds used to use.
I'm not eating that concoction of crap they call plant matter.

Its been over 5 weeks, so finally got out for some fish and chips today. Close to the new flat...was pretty good...served by a cute as heck eastern european waitress...I'll go back. (for the fish and chips of course, but don't tell Ania...she doesn't like me to eat fried food ;))

I went down the street to the little mexican flat top in the shell station just a half mile down the road. $2.75/each. Picked up 2 fajitas and 1 barbacoa. So so much meat. I've got 1.5 tacos left.

I was wary of gas station tacos when I moved to Texas. Then I discovered Fuel City Tacos, south of downtown. Place is always a madhouse with long lines. I once saw an out of town tour bus stop and let out what looked like a bunch of church ladies. Good thing we had already ordered...T

I don't know if it's the same people, but at nights (I have no clue of their schedule/locations) there's a food truck in the same parking lot as the Shell. I've eaten there once or twice and it was excellent. That line is the same way. I waited 3o or 45 minutes.

I've seen that set up in Cali. Not here that I can recall. Probably best meal we had in Napa was a taco truck in a gas station...T

So behind in lunch stuff. I’ve been basically skipping it for too long. Cram down a yogurt/berries and apple and keep moving. All this Tex/Mex talk is too much.
