Does anybody have a transcript of what she actually yelled at the line judge? All I can find are bleeped out videos with poor sound I cannot decipher.
Thanks. I'd love to see the whole "conversation". The funny part was how Serena didn't realize what she just did. She was about ready to play on as they pulled the plug. PS: The line judge's call was wrong, but this outburst is unworthy. Just outcome.
If you have sharp ears, maybe this video will help. Only the people behind the line judge know what she said, other than the ball down her throat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-VxYvfwVas
I don't really understand why tennis players have to crowd the line so close. What difference does it make if you're an inch further back?
Serena's blog http://www.serenawilliams.com/blog_message_detail.php?msg=124 _______ Serena Paycheck sings! (Chorus) Take this ball and shove it I ain't playin' here no more My temper done left and took all the season I was playing for Ya better not try and stand in my way Cause I'm walkin' out the door Take this ball and shove it I ain't playing here no more Well, I been playing as a professional now on fourteen years And this time, I lost the Open defaultin', uncool to peers And I've had a lot of foot faults slide 'cause judge knew the price to pay I'd give the shirt right off of my back if I had the guts to say... (Chorus) The umpire's a regular dog, the line judge, she's a fool Got a brand new Open outfit, Lord, she thinks she's cool One of these days I'm gonna blow my top and that snitcher, she's gonna pay I can't wait to see their faces when I get the nerve to say... (Chorus) Take this ball and shove it!
"The resulting double fault gave Clijsters match point. But Serena angrily confronted the lineswoman who made the call, dropping the f-word liberally and, getting in her face and waving her racket and later the ball menacingly, saying, "I swear to God I'm [expletive] going to take this [expletive] ball and shove it down your [expletive] throat, you hear that? I swear to God." After chair umpire Louise Engzell discussed Serena's reaction with the lineswoman, she called Serena for a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct -- her second after a sanction for racket abuse at the end of the first set. That meant Clijsters, by rule, was awarded a point -- the last point of the match, as it turned out." http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tennis/usopen09/columns/story?columnist=garber_greg&id=4468470
Just the booty. http://digitalheadbutt.files.wordpress.com/2007/07/serena-williams.jpg This clip has pretty good audio: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tennis/usopen09/columns/story?columnist=garber_greg&id=4468470
She is now negative $10,500 10k - unsportsman-like 500 - racket abuse http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090913/ap_on_sp_te_ga_su/ten_us_open_swilliams_5
Everyone will tune in next time to see what she will say next. I remember Boris Becker doing something similar but it was in german.
For someone at that level a LOT, it gives you a better angle down into the court and thus you can put more pace on it and keep it in.....
I watched it live and it was still heard to hear what she said. At that point in a semi final match, you have to let that foot fault slide. Her foot barely hit the line. Some of the commentators during the other matches yesterday were arguing that she should be suspended for a good period of time. A $10K fine is a joke.
Threatening a game official? Wow, give her the boots and then some. Just a sore loser. Surprised she didn't head butt her after the match default. Maybe she can be the next WWE guest host.
I wouldn't call saying 'If I could I'd shove this ball down your F'ing throat' much of a threat to take serious. I haven't seen the match but apparently the line judge was wrong so Serena was right to have an outburst like that IMO. Especially since it was her second serve...
